Tours: its a good tourist trap !
  • Tip Rating:
  • its called oz jet cruise or something rather and costs an arm and a leg (AU$35) for 1/2 hour but I enjoyed this fast speeding jet with a cute face ride very much last summer. It's not as thrilling as they make it appear to be but seeing the harbour from this angle makes you realise how truly spectacular it is.

go to where it docks (after the ferry terminals, just at the beginning of the walk towards the opera house) and book it an hour in advance while you stroll along the harbour and soak up the sunshine and atmposhere

errr does JET sound scary to you? its not!!!

well then take the regular public ferries to wherever you like and the habour will still be spectacular.

AMP Tower / Centerpoint.: Sydney Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • I may be prejudiced ~ living in the city with the Northern Hemisphere counterpart to Sydney Tower (the CN Tower) ~ but I find both to be overpriced and overhyped. Neither one is particularly attractive; luckily, they offer great views. . .but those can be found in nicer places.

Catch the views from the Habour Bridge Pylon ~ your photos will be better (no glass blocking you view).

  • Tip Rating:
  • I don't think (for us) that the Sydney travel pass was good value. Very expensive, we didn't use all of the features for the price. We did much better with a weekly bus and ferry 'zone' card.

    Beaches: Bondi Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wasnt a huge fan of the beach, thought it was a little over hyped, but still youve got to come to one of the most famous beaches in the world if you come to Sydney. Personally prefered the other beaches around Sydney.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Darling Harbour - like all harbourisde arcades (think Fisherman's Wharf etc) it's filled with stores aimed at releieving tourists and some unknowing locals of their spondoolies. Only come here if you MUST buy kitsch Australian wearables and overpriced tennis gear.

  • The Rocks:
Lovely historical place for buffs but full of expensive restaurants and equally expensive shops. For the cashed up only.

Bridge Climb: The Sydney Bridge climb is...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Sydney Bridge climb is great but it ain't cheap. Even more expensive if you do the night climb but if you want some great photo shots and a memorable 'tourist' experience then do it. ''''''''''''''''''''

I just went on the climb last week. It takes about 3 hours because there are a number of safety instructions to run through first. You can't take your own camera because you may drop it on the traffic below......yeah right. Of course the guide takes his/her camera and you have to pay more money for the pictures they take!

Here's a picture of a group of climbers on the bridge. I haven't uploaded my photos yet.

    Tours: Tourist traps are everywhere...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Tourist traps are everywhere in Sydney. Avoid the expensive and boring bus tours unless you like the 'snap a picture as you drive by' kind of good time. Also, tourist shops touting supposedly authentic trinkets made by aboriginals are rampant in the Rocks area. Give these kind of places a wide berth.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The Olympic Park is an interesting place, but also a tourist trap. If one arrives by ferry (to Homebush Bay), I would suggest taking the 401 bus. It's a lot cheaper than the $10 Olympic Explorer bus and goes to the same place. Once you get there, you can walk around to see the different stadiums.
