Take the Ferry system for a cheap tour of the harbor. The ride back from the Toonga Zoo takes you to a few really neat parts of the harbor. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

State Transit operates the city's buses and the ferry network, CityRail runs the urban and suburban trains, and Sydney Ferries runs the public passenger ferries. In addition, a monorail connects the city center to Darling Harbour and a light rail line (tram) runs between Central Station and Wentworth Park in Pyrmont. MONEY-SAVING TRANSIT PASSES--Several passes are available for visitors who will be using public transportation frequently--all work out to be much cheaper than buying individual tickets. The SydneyPass is a good buy if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing, but in our opinion you're better off with the flexibility offered by some of the other passes listed below. The SydneyPass allows 3, 5, or 7 days of unlimited travel on buses and ferries, including the high-speed JetCat to Manly, the Red Sydney Explorer Bus, the Blue Bondi and Bay Explorer Bus, the Airport Express Bus, and all harbor cruises operated by State Transit. A three-day pass costs A$70 for adults, A$60 for children under 16, and A$200 for families; a five-day pass is A$95 for adults, A$80 for children, and A$270 for families; a seven-day pass is A$110 for adults, A$95 for children, and A$315 for families. (State Transit defines a 'family' as two adults and any number of children from the same family.) Buy the SydneyPass at the airport, Countrylink offices, Public Transport ticket offices, Circular Quay ferry ticket offices, and anywhere else the SydneyPass logo is displayed; proof of overseas residence is required. Check the ferry schedules and be there ontime. The ferries are extremely prompt, and if you dont want to have to swim out to them, make sure to leave some time to spare! Many ferries only come once and hour or so, so be diligent. It can be a long wait... Theme: Ship/Boat

Getting the ferrys around the city to its different parts, is what really brings it home that one is in SYDNEY. It shows off the best sights of the city, and is inexpensive. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

It's easy to visit many places with the ferries. You can catch the ferries from the Circular Quay, and they go to 41 wharves including the famous Darling Harbour & Manly beach Leave a Comment

Okay, so you've come to Sydney to see the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Well, for the cheapest view of both and some of the best angles, you'll want to be on the ferry that goes over to Luna Park, McMahons Point and then into Darling Harbour. This inexpensive and relatively short journey gives you wonderful views of tourist Sydney and many of its icons. Luna Park is still fun for the kids (and more than a few adults) and it sits adjacent to North Sydney Swimming Pool where many a legend of the Aussie crawl has done laps. The ferry then skips to the nearby McMahon's Point (there's a nice restaurant here) and then cuts across the harbour to Balmain and a couple of stops in the oh-so-touristy Darling Harbour where you have to be a total introvert not to find something to take your money. There's everything from the Chinese Garden to the Casino, from dozens of epicurean delights to the Entertainment Centre; from the Aquarium to Imax, from Maritime Museum to munchies. Don't forget, bring your wallet with you. The trip shows you the CBD of Sydney better than any other ride with some special angles. Make sure your battery has plenty of charge in your camera. The ferry then returns to Circular Quay, making for a stunning short trip. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Sydney Ferries are a great, inexpensive, and scenic way to get around the city. All ferries leave from Circular Quay and can take you to places like Darling Harbour, Parramatta, and Manly. You should take a ferry ride at least once if you are visiting Sydney. Otherwise, I think the train is the best way to get around. Leave a Comment
