Trains: It depends on where your...
It depends on where your coming from. There is plenty of public transport to get you to Sydney, as well as an airport.
The best way to get around Sydney is through public transport. Within the heart of Sydney itself, you can practically walk to where you want to go without much hassale, but if you want to travel in and about the suburbs of Sydney or out of the CBD (central business district) its best that you go by bus or train. However trains are more convienient, and quicker than buses.

By plane, but do stop over one night in Hawaii and not try to make the trip all in one flight. Much too long.

    Trains: Sydney Train Timetable
I have included the train timetable from the cityrail website here because the train is pretty much the best option for travelling in any direction from Sydney to see the sights. Services are quite frequent. Just select the station you want to go to and it will tell you which line it's on.

    Trains: CityRail
The train is one of the best and easiest ways to get around in Sydney. If you are not in Sydney, you can get into the city from as far north as Newcastle to as far south as Wollongong, and west from the Blue Mountains. The train also has stops at the airport at both domestic and international terminals. If the train doesn't get you exactly where you want to go, when you get off the train you can probably take a short walk or a bus to your destination.

Sydney's rail system is clean and safe. It is very easy to get anywhere by looking at a map or asking at a station. I found the employees to be very helpful. While in the city limits, you will most likely use Central Station to change lines.

If you will be in Sydney for a week, I would recommend a 7-day Rail Pass for unlimited use of the train for 1 week. They are a great bargain at AU$22 for adults and $11 for children and students.

Check the website for timetables and fares.
