cheating is easy...catch the chair lift to 1900m then walk for 5 hours and wholla...your on top of australia
it costs $26 AUS return, and the views are pretty good to.
mountain bikers take there bikes up the lift and ride down flat out.

Thredbo and Perisher Blue (the other ski resort) is located 6 hours drive south of Sydney in the Snowy Mountains on the NSW side of the border between New South Wales and Victoria.
To get there you drive.
Thredbo is inside the Kosciuszko National Park and you must pay $A15 per day entry fee (or an annual permit for $A66). During winter, snow chains are mandatory for cars, except 4WD.
There's a free shuttle service in the village, otherwise you walk or...ski.

We visited Thredbo over the New Years Eve period in 2004/2005... It was a great trip, even though it was only for 3 nights... There is so much to see and do in Thredbo...even in the summer... ;)...
