Wagga Wagga is a nice and cosy town, and the best way to explore the town area is by walking as the attractions are near to each other, and the main town area consists of only 2-3 main streets.
You should also venture into the Murrumbidgee River park area just next to town, where the locals have their picnics, swim, leisure activities and there is even a caravan park here.
Overall, I had a very pleasant and relaxing walk around Wagga Wagga town when I was there in 2008.

When I was in Australia in 2008, I travelled from Wagga Wagga to Canberra by land via the Fearnes Coach buses. The buses leave at the Wagga Wagga train station, and took about 4-5 hours to reach Canberra, cost is about Australian $20-30.
I am not sure whether Fearnes Coach still serve this land route today, you can contact them at the following website for more information.

The most convenient way to reach Wagga Wagga from Sydney is to take the domestic flights via either Qantas Link or REX-regional express (see website below).
The flight time is about 2 hours via small planes, through beautiful mountains and huge plains. The Wagga Wagga airport is small and cosy, and buggage claims is a breeze.

To get to Wagga you could take an aeroplane from Sydney or Melbourne direct via Regional Express (REX)... Flights also arrive from Albury and Griffith... (Regional Express web site) Or you can fly with Qantas if you prefer.
Via bus you can try Greyhound/Macaffertys (Greyhound web site) or our local company called Fearnes. (Fearnes web site)
You can take the train also...to check out details go to the Country Link website.
Or via car you can drive along one of the many roads into Wagga...the two most popular roads into Wagga are the Sturt Highway and the Olympic Highway.

You can catch a bus or taxi around the city or drive if you have a car. It is easy enough to walk around the CBD without transport but there is a Shuttle Bus available that does the length of the main street if you need it and there are public transport buses to the suburbs also.
A free public transport map is available from the Visitor Information Centre.
