One of the many things that I managed to fit in at my day in Windsor was a visit to the Hawkesbury Regional Museum. Although small, the Museum shows what life was like in the area over the early period , from the difficulties of settlement through the enormous early floods of the 1800's to the settlement and building . The displays are of many early artifacts that have been recovered and also a history of many of the prominent residents of the time..Some great early photos and local river craft and info.
This is also the Information centre with very helpful staff and information .Maps and all tourist information is available with local brochures.
Entry is free.
Open 7 days.
While you are "out and about" in this really historically old (by Australian standards) town You will find yourself very hot and thirsty after doing so much walking like I did...The Macquarie Arms Hotel (circa 1815) is definately the place to cool offf with a cold beer. This old Hotel , they say is the oldest Hotel /Inn in Australia. Although it wasn't long ago that someone was telling me this in one of the old pubs in Sydney town.!!! The day I visited the pub the lunch time crowd was big and the outside seating was all taken also waiting time for that cold beer was a while..!! Mind you this is a very old pub and the interior is pleasant and has a lot of old photos and notices etc: showing early life and prominent buildings and people of a time, when I'm glad I wasn't there. "The Rum Corps " of British soldiers had a reputation of cruelty and persecution and am sure it was no different here than anywhere else in the Colony.
