The best swimming beach in Wollongong is the North beach in front of the Novotel hotel.
This is a very popular place to hang out in the summer months especially.
Fondest memory: The mountains and the sea....so close together.
The coastline views are excellent.
Nan Tien buddhist temple is just on the outskirts of Wollongong.
Unfortunately the grounds were closed for the day when we were there so we couldn't get a good look at it.
It's quite a sight as you first see it from the highway, which is why I've included it as something to see.
The Pagoda is of great spiritual importance to buddhists. Inside the Pagoda you can make a wish and sound the bell.
Fondest memory: We had great fun here too, posing in front of the Pagoda like this. The photo turned out quite well I think, and if I told you it was taken somewhere in Asia I could fool you!!
Fondest memory: Today we started our road trip and Wollongong was the first stop. It was the first time for me to drive on the wrong (left) side of the road. It was quite exciting but I was glad to be still alive. It was cool to stop at a place like the Nan Tien Temple, because it was so different. It was like being in China or something!!
Favorite thing: Around 20km south of Wollongong is the breathtaking KIAMA BLOWHOLE,there are 2 blowholes in the region, the main one is alot larger and can spurt water upto 60 metres high when the swell is right, great photographic experience here.
Favorite thing: acknowledge the interesting juxtaposition of exquisite geographical beauty and the fading relics of heavy primary/secondary industry. Don't shun the industrial suburbs/precincts etc. for the rainforest, mountain/escarpment, beautiful extended beaches etc of the natural environment. Wollongong is the sum of these things. I have lived in Wollongong for the last 10 years and I believe there could be no better place to live.
Inside the National Park is where the true beauty lies, many beautiful cabbage palms and ferns + Eucalypt plants, make the many forest tracks a job!
Watch out for blood sucking leeches though! YUK!
Favorite thing: These are the magnifficant coastal rock formations called 'CAMEL ROCKS' south of Wollongong,it kind of looks like a camel doesent it?
Favorite thing: South of Wollongong is usually referred to as the 'SAPHIRE COAST' for its beautiful waters.I cant disagree much though, beautiful stretch of sand and beach here!
Favorite thing: This is the heavenly lakes entrance during high tide,at lowtide, most of this area is sand, plenty of cute yabbies at low tide too.The water is remarkably clean, with fantastic flora!Great spot indeed!
Favorite thing: Absailing in the Royal National Park is great,i didnt absail myself, many people enjoy watching it though,if theyre in the same track as you that is,pictured here are the Kelly Falls.
Favorite thing: Many of the beaches in the Royal National Park are covered by lovely bushland, and hilly terrain leaving AWESOME views from uptop amongst the nature.
