Wollongong residents really back their local teams ie. Wollongong Wolves (soccer), Wollongong Hawks (Basketball), St George Illawarra Dragons (Rugby League)...
The streets of Wollongong can be crazy after a home game of any sort...
Parking can be extremely difficult to find, even hours before a game. My hot tip is to use public transport, or if your close enough, walk.
Equipment: Food and beverages can be expensive in the grounds. Alcohol can not be taken into sporting venues as they conduct bag searches upon entry.
Wollongong is the gateway to the South Coast. Some better known surfing spots would consist of Helensburgh, Sandon Point and Bellambi Point in the North. Windang Island and Redsands to the south. There are many beautiful beaches with surfing oppotunities, these are just a sample...
Equipment: Dont forget Sunscreen!
Surfing at The Farm
The Farm is a great beach for surfing, it is located just south of Wollongong, near Bass Point. You have to have a car to get here, and there is a short 5 minutes walk from the parking lot to the beach, but totally worth it! It is a sand bottom beach with rocks on the sides, a great place for beginners and experienced surfers.
Equipment: You will need board of course, Wollongong has plenty of board shops, and even a few local shapers. You can get new or used boards in most of them.
