  • The best feature was the brilliant mid-winter weather, the sun was hot and the sky was the deepest blue imaginable. I spent the weekend checking out the city, all very accessible on foot which was wonderful. There are plenty of ferries crossing the river at many locations, plus bridges with pedestrian paths which makes it a compact city to explore.

I enjoyed the walk along the river from the motel to the South Bank Parklands. The weather was fantastic, the markets were lively and everything was in one place ie: the museum, art gallery, markets, etc.

  • Stroll along the South Bank on a weekend, and you can see Brisbanites taking it easy and enjoying their city.

Ferry crossing along Brisbane River. There's plenty of ferries crossing the river at different points in the city. You'll certainly enjoy the views of the city skyline from the river. Brisbane is fairly laid back, and this activity is very relaxing.

  • Tip Rating:
  • I would totally advise to come in the Spring time (our spring time that is). For starters the weather is absolutely beautiful. Also... you can see the jacarandas. This might be my personal bias here... but they really do look gorgeous... I always think of them as an Australian sakura (cherry blossom). Best place to see them (I think) is at the University of Queensland grounds, or New Farm Park. But... the time that they bloom kinda depends on the weather that year... as a Japanese friend of mine found out the hard way this year!

I've been living here most of my life, but haveN't really seen that much. I would recommend though taking a trip up to Mt Cootha. From the lookout you can see all of Brisbane... and it looks really nice. Best time to come, if you've got the time, is just before sunset. So you can sit and watch the sun set and then have a coffee while the stars come up! If you're going by bus... make sure you check the timetable though. Some Japanese friends of mine missed the bus after hitchhiking the way up (not advisable by the way) and were forced to walk all the way back to toowong... trust me... CHECK THE TIMETABLE!!

  • I'd also recommend taking a ride of the 'city cat' which is the major ferry system in Brisbane. Especially at night time it's really wonderful (and also romantic depending on who you're with) to sit up the front with the wind running through your hair.

Also nice is Kangaroo cliffs; botanical garden; valley markets; walking over to southbank. Brisbane has free art gallery and museum. The museum is a little boring... but the art gallery is definatley worth a look if you're into that.

  • Besides New Zealand, Australia is definitely the only other country in the world with this much SHEEP! And nothing beats visiting a real life working farm here in Brisbane.

Brisbane is also renowned for it's fantastic weather. With sunny days and clear blue skies all year round, hey, this city is great for lovers of the outdoor lifestyle! Just see how happy these sheep are? :-))

  • Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the LARGEST koala sanctuary in the entire Australian continent - the LONE PINE SANCTUARY right here in sunny Brisbane.

While you're here, feel free to cuddle Australia's most loved ambassador... no, NOT yourself... it's the Koala Bear.

You may also be tempted to feed some tall typically Aussie animals known as Emus; or the graceful Kangaroos and lazy Wallabies.

Oh, and don't forget to make friends with the friendly Wombats, Tasmanian Devils, Dingoes and Possums (a real nocturnal creature like...ahem... YOU) and the many other Aussie animals on display. :-)

Photo Below: No, that's not a koala bear that I'm trying to feed... It's actually another great Australian animal - the adorable Kangeroo. Join us??

  • This is beautiful SOUTH BANK at nightfall. The South Bank precinct is also home to some of the city's great tourist attractions.

SHOPPING here is relatively inexpensive. :-)) There are many cool department stores to drive you bonkers. Ladies, in moments like these, please hand your purse(s) to your husbands/ boyfriends. Fortitude Valley is another place to go to for more diverse options. This area is dotted with small boutiques/ fashion shops and weekend markets.

David Jones - THE Department Store

    Pulse - Brisbane Markets

    The Myer Center

Coles - THE Supermarket (my fave)

    Woolworths Supermarket (my fave)

You may wish to also take note of the following shopping times (very important!):

    Supermarkets: 9am - 9pm/ Monday-Friday;

    9am - 5pm/ Saturday

    Department Stores/ General Shops: 9am - 5:30pm; Monday-Friday

    * late night shopping until 9pm one night per week/
    9am - 5pm Saturday.

    Happy Shopping!

    catch the impressive RAM SHOW...
  • Tip Rating:
  • catch the impressive RAM SHOW right here in the AUSTRALIAN WOOLSHED.

During the Ram Show, you'd see various breeds of sheep/ ram walk up the aisle and take their assigned place onstage.

I don't know but somehow this kind of behavior seems to wreak havoc on the widely held belief that sheep/ ram are incredibly dumb group of animals and can never be taught to do anything. Well, looks like whoever called these rams dumb have to eat their words now.

Moral of the story? Never say never. I for one believe that nothing is impossible in this life and never call anyone dumb lest you have to eat your own words later. :-D

    And you were saying?
