If you need a nice greasy breakfast after a long night out, Ricks’s café (Fat Boy's/Fat Rick's) in the Valley mall (323 Brunswick St) is the best! You get a $4 breakfast after 4am including: Bacon & Eggs, 4 slices of toast, tomato & a Sausage.

    Dress Code: Anything appropriate.

    Ric's Bar: Chill time

Located in the Valley Mall, Ric's is one of the live music strongholds in the Valley. Ric's is small with a good atmosphere and cold beer. Almost every night there is a band(s) or DJ, from upcoming local acts to some premier international talent (no huge concerts though). The music is diverse, so each night is totally different. Check the website or local street press ('Time Off' is a good choice) for gig listings or just drop in and check it out. If you're a regualr to the Valley scene you're guaranteed to run into people you know at Ric's, and the venue is often a meeting place for local artists, poets and musicians. If you've got your dancing shoes on and want to do some booty shaking, Ric's isn't so much the place, but if you'd like to check out some local talent and enjoy a few drinks, head on down.

Dress Code: Anything goes, nothing fancy - jeans, sneakers, your fave t-shirt.

Ric's Cafe & Bar: good atmosphere, good music

Located in Fortitude Valley, I was taken here by some local girls and loved it. It's not too pricey and there's a good atmosphere, here. They regularly have live bands playing, and there's outdoor seating so you can enjoy the music and still be able to have a conversation with your friends. It's also a good spot if your a fan of people watching, as there are always plenty of people coming and going along the Valley.

Dress Code: No special dress requirements.

Rics is a two-level venue in the Valley. Downstairs on most nights there are live bands playing and you can also sit outside so you can people watch and drink. Upstairs at Rics is where you can dance - there are some great DJs - the music is always good! The dancefloor is pretty small but you'll be too busy dancing to care. If you need a break there is a small veranda so you can breathe some fresh air and gaze upon all the people below.

  • Ric's Cafe & Bar: One of the last bastions of live music

by fadsarefun Updated Sep 16, 2004

Ric's is a fabulous bar in Fortitude Valley that seems to be the birthplace of many brilliant local bands. 'Alternative' is a pretty sad stamp these days, as it doesn't say much. But the bands who play here are not the new Beyonce's or JTs. They are grunty, sweaty, foxy bands or sweet balladeers. They have soul and sex and charisma. Definitely THE place in Brisbane to check out what the local music scene has to offer. Upstairs offers some light dance relief, but the live music is definitely what this place is known for locally.

Dress Code: Dress for who you are, not who you aim to please. No suits or Miami-vice wear here. Casual, easygoing.
