  • Tip Rating:
  • Brisbane Ghost Tours. I've never been on this one, but I've heard alot about it! It includes a visit to Boggo Road Gaol (Jail). For those of you Aussies who watched the 'Scream Test' series on TV last year, you know what I'm talking about. An absolutely freaky place - I for one would not like to go here at night.

You can call them on (07) 3272 6234

  • Tip Rating:
  • Brisbane Powerhouse. This place is a 5 minute walk from where we live. Beautiful old building, which houses a Live Arts Theatre, Restaurant, Bar and Gallery. Something a little different.........

You can find it at 119 Lamington Street, New Farm (5-10 mins from the City).

    To visit their website:

    www.brisbanepowerhouse.org.

Not to be confused with the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.......!

  • Miegunyah. This is a Victorian Era house, where you can see this beautiful place still furnished with the original fittings. It's absolutely beautiful. Adults are $ 4.00 and Children are $ 1.50. The house is only open on Wednesdays (10:30am to 3:00pm) and Weekends (10:30am to 4:00pm). You can visit the house at 35 Jordan Terrace, Bowen Hills (about 10 mins drive from the City Centre). • Tip Rating:
  • Newstead House. This is only 2 minutes from where we live. It's a beautiful historic house dating back to 1846, with gorgeous gardens. It's open from Monday to Friday (10am to 4pm) and Sunday (2pm to 5pm). The cost is $ 4.40 for Adults and $ 2.20 for Children. It is apparently Brisbane's oldest dwelling. You can find it at Newstead Park (lovely place), Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead. When you've finished visiting the House, go across the road for a 'Brekky Creek Steak'. See 'Places to Eat'!

  • Tip Rating:
  • STRADBROKE ISLANDis often missed out of travel plans when people visit Brisbane or the Gold Coast. The island or should I say islands (North and South Stradbroke) are absolutely beautiful - a great place to get away from the city to enjoy swimming in fresh water lakes or the clear blue Pacific ocean. You can camp on the beach, drive a 4WD down the beach (you'll need a permit-see Redlands Shire web page), go scuba diving, take a walk along the beautiful coastline and spot dolphins and green turtles or enjoy a delicious seafood dinner at one of the cafes at Point Lookout - the resort area (very small) of North Stradbroke. The island is actually a part of the Redlands Shire not Brisbane city itself, but is easily accessible by car and ferry or by train and ferry from Brisbane. A perfect weekend getaway!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! For further details, check out the Redlands Shire Tourism site Cl ck here

There are some fantastic areas by the river, just to get away from the madding crowds for a while :))

The river is not normally this color, it was churned up with heavy rains, just before I took this shot..

  • Tip Rating:
  • Sunshine coast hinterland is a lovely area. Hiking in Lamington national park, which is about an hour or more out of Brisbane, is an absolute delight. There are also the glasshouse mountains for a day climb. Stradbroke Island is a beautiful place too and if you have a 4WD, try to get to Fraser (but watch out for the dingoes!!)

  • Tip Rating:
  • I recently (2002 June) visited Noosa, which is about 1hr drive from Brisbane. It's almost the same distant north as the Gold Coast is to the south. Noosa has become very posh. There are many award winning restaurants on Hastings Street. Right next to Hastings street, there is the Noosa main beach. Millions have been spent on making this beach spectacular. There are many sun bathers on the beach too. Some parts of the beach is good for surfing.

Nearby, there is the Noosa National Park. Splendid ocean views. Pefect hues of blues circle the headlands. You can see dolphins playing in the crystal clear water from the hill tops.

The pictures included here are from Coolum, which belongs to the Noosa region but is closer to Brisbane than Noosa.
