Regularly busy, this chatty restaurant/bar lives under the Metro Arts Building (one of the few remaining places to see independent theatre). This is the home of the vodka penne and galliano prawn fettucine. Verve is ever changing with different, unique specials each day, art exhibited by local artists, live music (currently on Thurs night - Nov 03) and DJ on Friday nights. The staff are gorgeous and the food is the deal. Don't heard there if you're looking for a quiet, romantic date. Do head there when you're out on Friday night and feel peckish at 11pm, chances are they'll still be cooking! Lunch Mon-Fri, Dinner Mon-Sat.
You got pastas, risottos, gourmet pizzas, different daily bread (I was given a frown when I asked for garlic bread - no can do!), and an everchanging menu of mains. The last thing I had which I loved was a duck confit on rocket salad with red wine jus. Prices in local currency fall below the $27. This place is accurately touted as Modern Italian with Verve. | | | | Urbane: Still No#1 on our list (and we dine out weekly) | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We've been here a few times now and it never fails to impress. We recently returned for our wedidng anniversary and you know how some people get married for the presents, I'd recommend getting married just for the anniversary dinners at this restaurant. The service is excellent and the food, well it is outstanding. From the pre dinner cocktails to the entree, right through to the desserts and cheese platter(we had to roll home, we ate so much), every part of the meal was first class. We have tried many restaurants both in Brisbane, Sydney and elsewhere as we love food and we love eating out. Others have impressed us but none as much as this, it's still our favourite. It's not cheap(but not expensive either) but if you want a dining experience that you'll remember for a long time to come, try it out. I think the reason our bill is always rather large is because we get cocktails and expensive bottles of wine because the meals themselves are very reasonably priced.
Hard to say, the vennison with the bitter chocolate sauce was mouth watering as are their oysters with the crushed lime sorbet type topping. then again the dessert for 2 is to die for- a tasting of different mini desserts including lavender creme brulee and a whole lot of other naughty delights. This looked so impressive that when they brought it out to us, others in the restaurant stopped to see what it was. | | | | The Chinahouse Seafood Restaurant: We were told it's the best in Chinatown! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We were guided to this restaurant by a young couple of residents who saw the city map in my hand. We wanted to eat Chinese food, since the Chinese community was celebrating the Moon Festival that night. We were assured that it was the best and the cheapest in the area. The upstairs was a large dining room and nearly empty when we entered. But it was full of diners when we left, plus the downstairs/sidewalk tables were also full! The servers were quick and efficient, if not totally helpful with ordering. It was entertaining to watch what other diners were ordering, etc. And for the first time in my experience, we were only given a small plate and a rice bowl to eat off of.
The menu didn't have descriptions of the meals, and we made a mistake by not asking for a description. That and the fact that we ordered dishes which we were not familiar with. The garlic scallops seemed to have lots of onion, for instance, and very little garlic. So... it seemed we ordered the "wrong" foods for our tastes, but we ate them anyway. But the ala carte rice order came in a large insulated container (and was plentiful), plus we enjoyed the desserts more. There are several large acquariums in one corner where you can order live fish or crabs or lobsters. And some of the dishes come "sizzling".... On weekends, I think, the nam cha is the big draw. I just found this website which gives a 10% discount here and other discounts at numerous other Brisbane restaurants: http://bris.ccmaustralia.com/sponsors.htm Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 12 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley
