Situated in the expansive Southbank precinct, there are a number of theatres of varying sizes and a concert hall in the complex - The Playhouse, Lyric Theatre, Cremorne and the Concert Hall. There's a great little theatre museum, where there are always interesting and innovative displays for the real buff as well. The theatre gift store always has high quality goodies, and is well worth a visit as well. A range of local, interstate and international acts are enjoyed here throughout the year.

South Bank Parklands offer several BBQ huts where it is lawful to consumer liquor if you are having a substantial meal. In other words, they allow you to have a wine or beer with a meal cooked on the BBQ. This is valid from 10am in the morning until 8pm at night. The Parkland and river is absolutely stunning late afternoon in April and May with a gorgeous crisp sky and the sun painting a magnificent canvas against the cityscape. Some of the BBQ huts near waterways are off limits for obvious safety reasons. They don't want broken glass where it may result in injuries. However, these are marked with signs.

South Bank park is a great area, on the "south bank" of brisbane. You can take a walk through the rainforest path, or spend the day suntanning on the man made beach and swimming area, (which is kinda odd to try and relax on the beach, while overlooking the city of brisbane, and hearing the traffic). There are also lots of cafes and restaurants within the park, and some tourist shops as well. There is a museum located within the park as well. Leave a Comment

South Brisbane is one of Brisbane's oldest suburbs. Its central feature is the South Bank Parklands. Brisbane's South Bank, formerly the site of Expo '88, has been developed into a very impressive arts and leisure zone with theatres, galleries, museums; walking and cycling track, and a landscaped riverside park with streams, canals, fountains, grassy knolls and ornamental gardens. Southbank is an oasis in the middle of Brisbane city. Take a towel and a newspaper/magazine and lie on the beach. Get there early because theres a lot of people in Brisbane and the little beach can't hold everyone. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and fast food places or if your on a budget take a picnic. There are markets, an entertainment pavillion, conservatorium, souvenier shops, a pub, newsagent, restaurants, a nepalese peace pagoda, cultural centre, tranquil chinese gardens and so much more. Southbank was the site of Exppo 88 in Brisbane. After Expo residents of Brisbane were keen to see much of the parkland atmosphere retained. Hence Southbank was developed and opened around 1992. Over 10 years on the Southbank area remains one of Brisbane's significant mixed parkland and restaurant areas. Centrepiece to Southbank is a hugely popular lagoon beach. It's jam packed in Summer on the weekends. In addition Southbank also plays host to many events and concerts in the amphitheatre. If you're after a bite to eat Southbank has over 30 restaurants and takeaways to choose from. Leave a Comment Address: SouthbankDirections: Southbank Parklands
