    Visit Southbank, south of the Brisbane River, for a day of relaxation and activities. There is an artificial beach lagoon, BBQ pits, and on weekends, you have the weekend markets selling handicrafts.

    Brisbane Arbour is a pleasant 1 km walkway through the South Bank parklands and is certainly one of the architectural highlights. Bright bougainvillea flowers climb and spill over the unusual shaped arches creating a tunnel-like affect.

    This is a new and very popular area right in the heart of Brisbane’s cultural and entertainment area. Just across the river, South Bank covers 17 hectares of parkland and provides a wide range of activities not to mention 20 different eateries. South Bank was the winner of Australia’s most prestigious urban development award (the Energex). This was the site of the 1988 World Expo. Open daily 9am-9pm

  • Southbank is a great place to spend some time...Stroll along the river and just admire the view. Visit the markets that sell anything imaginable..or dine at one of the great cafes!! It has got such character,yet is still laidback.

  • Man-made beach for swimming all year round. Heaps of places to eat, and next to the Museum and Art Gallery. New bridge to walk over the river from Southbank to the City side. Huge Cinema complex including an IMAX Theatre. Markets on Friday nights, all day Saturday and Sunday.

    Visit South Bank, just over the bridge from the city.The Concert Hall and Conservatorium of Music are right next door, and the Museum, and Art Gallery and State Library just a short walk. It's a great place to meet friends and family, bike, jog, have a meal or snack. There's quiet seating by the river looking to the city, and watching the world go by. And you can swin at the man-made beach, sand and all,in a tropical setting.There are also markets on, with craft etc., and a farmer's market also, every second week.

    On the other side of the river in downtown, this is a nice place to take a rest and relax... or hide from the summer heat and sun between noon and 2 p.m. former expo area, with public pools and snack bars...THE place to take a break from walking thru the concrete jungle =)
