Tap water is fine
  • Tip Rating:
  • Brisbane tap water is perfectly fine to drink. Most locals drink tap water. By drinking tap water you can save a fortune on bottled water. If you don't like the taste of Brisbane tap water, cordial (a concentrated syrup available in many fruit flavours) is a cheap way of flavouring your water. Use about 1 part cordial 4 parts water.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Parking in the City! It's too expensive. It's easier (and cheaper) to use public transport (Bus, Train or City Cat)

    Trains @ southbank
At southbank, there are 2 train stations on the same street. But they are totally different. If you want to go to any of the themeparks, or the airport, go to the one at the top of the road (coming from away from the city), otherwise, the one next to QPAC takes you to the goldcoast.

Ask the ticket seller people, they are nice and will help you if you are not sure if you're in the right station. Just be aware that there are TWO stations.

    Rent a car.

Queen Street has always been one of the city's most important places, where the people of Brisbane welcome visitors and celebrate important events. For example, there have been many memorable parades through Queen Street, including the Boer War, First and Second World Wars. Queen Street has been the premier retail strip throughout the city's history. Even in the 1880's Queen Street was divided into two areas, the retail or 'fashionable' end between George and Edward Streets and the commercial area between Edward and Wharf Streets.

Crowds also flocked to the city centre for entertainment. As it is today, promenading was one of the main forms of entertainment and Saturday night was particularly popular for window shopping and being seen.

Right now you can say that the heart of Queen Street in Brisbane has put on a fresh face. The entire street is lined with a colourful mix of heritage facades, historic arcades and some modern shopping galleries. At the end of Queen Street (near the Victoria Bridge) you'll find the Treasury Building. They say it's "the most beautiful example of Italian renaissance at the Southern hemisphere". They started building it in 1885 and it lasted 40 years before it was finished. Nowadays it is a casino.

Crowds also flocked to the city centre for entertainment. As it is today, promenading was one of the main forms of entertainment and Saturday night was particularly popular for window shopping and being seen.

Queen Street - A brief history!

The introduction of large enclosed shopping centres in the suburbs, the removal of the trams and introduction of buses in the 1960s had a negative impact on the quality of Queen Street. In 1978 Council initiated an investigation in the problems and needs of pedestrians in the city centre. This investigation recommended that Queen Street be closed to traffic and a pedestrian mall be built. The street was closed in January 1981 and the first part of the mall was built between Edward and Albert Streets. It was opened in August 1982.

Crowds also flocked to the city centre for entertainment. As it is today, promenading was one of the main forms of entertainment and Saturday night was particularly popular for window shopping and being seen.
