Brisbane Bus: Brisbane City Buses
While the operation of the Brisbane Bus network may appear quite scary at first glance, most drivers will gladly assist you in finding the correct bus... some even announce the stop if you let them know beforehand. Others may not be so helpful... Some don't even stop for you to get on. There is definatly room for improvement for Brisbane buses.

    Brisbane Bus: Bus tickets
You can either buy tickets on the bus or prebuy them at newsagents.

    Pre bought ones come in:
    1. Zones (10 trips)
    2. Day Rover (single whole day use)

You can currently use these tickets on the ferry and Citycat as well.

You can enquire at the info booth at Queen Street Mall or on phone about zone boundaries, but it may be easier if you get a feel for what you are doing in Brisbane and then buy a zone ticket.

Be aware you can't insert a 1 zone ticket twice to make a 2 zone journey.

On the bus you can buy:
    1. Off Peak saver. This is much cheaper than a Day Rover, but is limited. You can't travel on this card between 3pm - 7pm. However, you can use it anytime on the weekend (but not on the boats).
    2. Transfer ticket. Ask for this if you need to take 2 different buses to get somewhere.
    3. Normal zone ticket. Just tell the driver where you want to go, and they will tell you how much it costs.

Keep your ticket handy in case an inspector gets on board.

See www.transinfo.qld.gov.au which is the website for all Brisbane's public transport information. Here you will also find journey planners and the bus routes and times.

Car Rentals: Rent A Car to See the city and more

Although depending on public transportation or using a lot of taxi's might be fine in Brisbane, I found that renting a car was actually the best option. From Brisbane there is just so much you can access by car, and too many of the things worth seeing just wounldn't be worth getting there any other way.

Car rentals can be pretty expensive in Australia, but if you make your reservations early it's easy enough to find cheap rental car services.

For convenience sake we decided to rent from a rental car service located directly at the airport.

A car, of course, also helps to keep you comfortable in what was for us a somewhat humid and often wet climate not to mention the car helped to provide additional protection from the sun.

The traffic is really not bad at all in Brisbane, so I found driving here to be a cakewalk.

Car Rentals: Brisbane car rental- brisbanerentacar
Car rental Brisbane. AVOID brisbanerentacar. Terrible customer relations. Hub caps held on by cable ties- one came loose, which they charged us for. The worst bit was that we were only told this on the way to the airport, after the credit card had been debited.

Car Rentals: Best way to see Brisbane and the Gold Coast
Three words for QLD visitors in general. RENT A CAR. It is definitely the best way to see Brisbane and if you are not planning on staying overnight at the Gold Coast. The hotel we stayed in (Royal Albert) was like next door to a car rental company.

Just remember that the max speed limit on the freeway is 110!!!

General: No need to pollute the air ;-)
Considering that Brisbane is Australia's 3rd largest city, the city centre seems kind of small and actually everything's within walking distance.
If you still want to use public transportation, you can either take a bus (one line is even for free) or train. They also have those fancy looking ferries called City Cat which take you up and down the river (a good idea to take one to Southbank if you don't want to walk all the way down the bridge). What's really great is that if you have a train ticket from the outer suburbs of Brisbane to the city centre, you can use this ticket for the City Cat too (to ALL destinations).

Brisbane Ferry / CityCat: River ferry and City Cat around Brisbane
    City Cat

    - The city cat ferry is a cheap and fun way to scurry back and forth across the brisbane river.

    - Ferries run every 20 minutes from 0600AM to 1100PM.

    - An all day pass is only $5.40 and can be used for the city cat, city ferries, as well as buses and trains.

It's a afordable and fun way to see the city and take pictures.

Brisbane Ferry / CityCat: Up the Brissy River !
Along the Brisbane river the Citycat ferry service along and across the Brisbane River. For a one-way trip you’ll be up for AU$1.20 and you can catch one every 10-15 minutes from dawn until after 11pm Monday to Saturday, with shorter hours on Sunday.

Brisbane Ferry / CityCat: City Cat
If you have the time then make sure you go for a ride on the City Cat...it's a ferry that runs along the river in Brisbane. It's only cheap (it costed us $4.80 for two people from the city centre to Bulima) and it's a nice way to see the city and bridges.
