  • When in Australia the best way is by car... Or you could take a train or bus if you don't want to drive. If you have more money you could fly too... ;) The best way of getting around Brisbane has to be to walk! You see so much more that way. I recommend a walk along the waters edge on sunset and in the evening...it's really beautiful when the lights start shining on the water...

General: No need to pollute the air ;-)
Considering that Brisbane is Australia's 3rd largest city, the city centre seems kind of small and actually everything's within walking distance. If you still want to use public transportation, you can either take a bus (one line is even for free) or train. They also have those fancy looking ferries called City Cat which take you up and down the river (a good idea to take one to Southbank if you don't want to walk all the way down the bridge). What's really great is that if you have a train ticket from the outer suburbs of Brisbane to the city centre, you can use this ticket for the City Cat too (to ALL destinations).

    General: Daily Trip Ticket
The best way to see Brisbane and its suburbs is to purchase a daily trip ticket. You can use this to ride the ferry/citycat, buses and trains for one whole day regardless of number of stops. All one has to do is compute the number of zones you will be travelling. Zone 1 starts from the CBD and increases as you go farther from it. Check out www.transinfo.com.au for to plan your trip.

If you're flying to Cairns, take a seat on the right on the plane and enjoy the wonderful aerial view of Brisbane right after take-off. Oopps, forgot to tell you to enjoy the coastal view of Port Douglas and Cairns as well before landing! Remember to take a seat on the right!

    General: From Sydney
I used bus from Sydney. You can use plain to, but I think buses are better. You will see nice tings on the way. You don't have to worry about staying places between Sydney and Brisbane. Almost every places have nice hostels. You found commercial sings all around. You just have to choose.

Fly-otherwise it takes f*****g ages. Car hire is pretty cheap- get a one way hire from the airport to Noosa and it is cheaper than the bus (if there are more than one of you).

General: TransInfo will tell you HOW
If you want to get ANYWHERE around South East Queensland, particularly Brisbane, use TRANSINFO. Translink links up all the public transport networks (bus, train, citycat & ferry) and puts them all on one website, one timetable system, one fare system. The network is structured into zones, Zone 1 being the CBD. Whether you want to go to the airport, the city, the coast, theme parks... everything you need is on the site - the locals rely on it. Transinfo.com.au will get you anywhere... just use the Journey Planner or Advanced Journey Planner.
