Everytime we went for a drive there were wild fires in fields and by the side of the road. So be aware and careful. |
Greetings Taxi's are always available in Brisbane, During peak hour I would call 20 minutes before you are ready, The only time you have troubles finding a taxi in Brisbane, Is when Brisbane is holding a Major Sporting Event, (Rugby Leage, AFL and the cricket are the main big ones) which are usually held over the weekend. Even then you can get a cab within 30 minute If you are in BRisbane Central and need to get to the airport and cant get a Taxi, Either get on at Central or Roma Street station and catch the air train to the airpot, Air trains leave every 30 minutes and from Central the train will have you at the International airport in 18 minutes and the domectic in 20 minutes, (Faster than a cab) During peak hour and there is no sporting event, Average wait time for a taxi is 15 minutes, Non peak 5-7 minutes, Peak and there is a major sporting event on Call the cab company an hour before ya want ya cab to find out Events in Brisbane visit www.ourbrisbane.com Leave a Comment |

I flew to Sydney in August to car hunt and rented a car from Avis. The people at Sydney airport were fine I ended up in Wagga Wagga and on Sunday morning I went to look at the last vehicle before flying back to Queensland This car was the best one I had looked at and I bought it. There was an issue with the rental vehicle so I rang Avis at Sydney straight away to see if i could leave the vehicle in Wagga Wagga The person I spoke to was very friendly and told me that if the plan was changed then it became a one way trip and so the price would be $600 So I asked Tom if i could bring the car back that day and yes that was fine The owner of the car I was buying said he new Avis in Wagga Wagga and rang them to work out a deal. The person he spoke to said if i fronted up at thier office she could sort something out. I did this and the figure became $300. So I stayed in Wagga Wagga and had a bit of a look around. The next morning I went to Avis at Wagga Wagga to drop back the vehicle Instead of $300 it had now become $519.00 They made me look bad. There was a room with four or five people in it plus a customer and was treated like a complete idiot. As for Avis Well the above consisted of part of my complaint. Time has passed they got thier money plus more and guess what they haven't bothered to address my complaint at all. |

I went on a rural walk down a road where I only saw about 10 cars all day. Anyway all the area was farmland and privite property which are all protected by a pack of dogs for each house. "Not a problem" you might think, "as long as I keep my distance I'll be ok" that's where you are wrong, as most people leave the gates open or don't even have a fence around their property, so when the dogs see you they think "fresh meat!" so you'll have to do what I did and make a run for it at top speed! |
It can be very hot here, so be sure you can always get water. $1.50 a bottle usually. Most parks have water taps, but they are sometimes warm. Be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen, or you will burn. |
On my last night in Brisbane I was walking around in the city. Crossed the intersection at the corner of Ann and Edward Sts (where Palace Backpackers and Central Railway station is) on a GREEN walk signal. I get more than halfway across the road when I look to my left and see a TAXI RUNNING A RED LIGHT! I bolted like all Hell, and he just missed me by less than a metre...it was pretty scary. Rang the taxi company the next day, they didn't care. Still, its something to think about...especially you guys who come from countries where they drive on the right, if you look the wrong way by accident (we drive on the left here), and you get someone running a red light, and you're in their lane, you'll have no chance, so be careful. |
SLIP SLOP SLAP - you get burnt even on shady days! |
The Sydney Bay beaches have shark cages built around the roped area for good reason! Only swim in designated areas if you choose to swim in Sydney Bay at all. (I didn't) Leave a Comment |
The experience of car parking in Goodearth Hotel, Brisbane was a very unpleasant and challenging one. Not much space for our small rented Hyundai Elantra to move around at all. Imagine that! We complained to the receptionist on duty but it didn't help at all. It seems it was not their problems but ours. No valet parking or so. The receptionist even suggested that we park our car outside the hotel. Security guard was not friendly either. He saw us having difficulty in parking but yet not sympathetic at all. In fact, the security guard complainned about us to the receptionist. The same receptionist (i think his name is Michael) called us up in the room. Whew! What we were doing was just removed a road block for more turning space and that also got complaint!!! ....Really lose our cool. We wanted to check out from the hotel on the first day but the receptionist said that the hotel will not refund us a cent at all. :( ....I booked the hotel room via internet booking - One major disadvantage for booking accomodation via internet. We didn't want to lose our 2 nights accommodation charges and therefore we stayed, reluctantly. Anyway, to avoid any further frustration, we returned the rented car immediately on the 2nd day.
