The sun is not your friend!

  • Due to the warm/hot climate - travel as lightly as possible whilst seeing the sights.

Anything light and breezey in summer (cotton). Definitely bring a hat or buy one when you get here. Sandles are okay for shoes - just be careful, if your feet get tanned/sunburnt then the pattern of your sandle will stay on your feet.

I cannot stress enough the importance of sunscreen in Cairns! Especially if you are from a place where the climate isn't always so hot. Mosquito repellent will also come in useful in the summer months.

    Water bottle!

  • Don't bring to much luggage, you won't need much in this tropical climate...

Open shoes, shorts, t-shirts. In other words: everything you'd wear on a hot summer day.

    Insect repellent

The usual stuff. Maybe an underwater camera for a boat trip to the reef. But you can always buy that in Cairns.

No beach in Cairns, but since November 2002 there's a lagoon with a man-made beach. Most hotels and hostels have a swimming pool, so bring your beach towel and swimmers!

Be prepared for a hot climate, especially in the wet season (November/December till March/April). The biggest problem about the climate is the humidity in the wet season. The best time to visit Cairns is between May and October.

    sunscreen or BURN

  • Depends how long you decide to go, I would recommend packing light. A small suitcase would be good or even just a big bag.

Dresses, t-shirts, skirts, shorts, bathers, sandles, maybe a light jacket which you probably won't use.

    Normal stuff, Toothbrush, painkillers etc

Underwater camera for sure because if you visit Cairns you need to visit the The Great Barrier Reef and you need photos of course. Also a video camera and maybe a normal camera ( I reccomend a digital but if you don't have one a normal plain one would be good.) You can by underwater camera for around $15 dollars to around $30 dollars (disposable).

Well since its beachy I would recommend sunscreen, hats, long t-shirts to keep the sun off but I do recommend LOTS AND LOTS OF sunscreen, sunglasses and hats.

Bring yourself and you adventureous nature.

Most travellers come to Cairns in Australian winter due to dry season - it is not so hot then and most of the time nice 26 - 30°C. Still you should not expect the absolute perfect weather. Also in dry season it can rain from time to time, as there can be no rainforest without rain. So you should bring raingear with you also in dry season.
It can also get quiet cold in the evening and night time sometimes, so remember to bring a light jacket and also a good sleeping bag if you want to camp.

Medium Bag and a toiletries bag should do it!

1 x slip-ons/good shoes for the nightlife, 1 x sneakers for hiking, 1 x thongs for everything else.

As its mostly warm in Cairns .. pack your bikinis/boardies, shorts, tshirts, 1 or 2 going out outfits, 1 pair jeans, maybe 1 jumper just in case it rains or gets cool! Underwear, hat, sarong! Towel!

Just the usual - toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, then suncream, insect repellent, moisturiser or Aloe cream.

MUST BRING A CAMERA!! And an underwater camera if you are diving.

Get ready to party and have a good time! See beautiful and amazing things .. dont worry about dressing up .. everyone is down to earth .. you're going to the beach/rainforest/canefields!!!
