carved boab nut by vtveen Having holiday in Australia for the first time, we felt we had to bring home an original Australian ‘souvenir’. Being attracted by the Aboriginal art we visited a couple of galleries. In Cairns we found Jungara Gallery, a little bit hidden behind all the restaurants along The Esplanade.
Jungara Gallery, from a Dutch owner Peter von Brunschot, offers the full range of Aboriginal art, like paintings, didgeridoos, pottery, boomerangs, baskets and much more. As we had still to fly a lot, we decided to buy a carved boab nut, with very fine incisions. Very light and not too fragile to transport back to home. Leave a Comment

Done by Robachu1 The Done Art and Design shop is in what appears to be an old post office building across from the Casino. The interior is bright and modern and filled with Ken Done designed clothes and gifts. Kaoru loved it.
AUD$20 for T-shirts, AUD$30-$40 for women's blouses, AUD$50 for neckties, etc. Leave a Comment

Night Market by Kate-Me The Cairns Night Market is great, as, like its name suggests, it's open at night (from about 4.30 pm till 11 pm). So, if you've been out doing sports, activities, dive & reef trips all day, once you've recovered you can go into town and still shop, and it's a nice busy atmosphere here, with several different types of shops, but most emphasis on items for the tourist.
At the Night Markets the most common little shops are jewellery, Aussie t-shirts, souvenirs and leather products (such as crocodile skin belts and other products).,
Prices will vary, depending on shop and quality, but I found the prices quite good, considering it's aimed at the tourist. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Cairns Esplanade (along from the restaurants and Tourist Info Centre)

The Night Owl is open 24/7 and there are a number of these, including one in the city centre. They have a small array of groceries, fruit, drinks, chocolate, phone cards, ATM's and pretty well anything you need at the last minute. They also have snacks for when you have been out and about and need some more fuel to keep going:) Just ask all the backapackers that you see here ordering the little pizza's at 1am in the morning:) Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: In all general locations in and around Cairns

by pacific_sol The Cairns Night Markets is/are located right on the Esplanade. I am not sure what time it opens (I believe around 4 PM), but it definitely closes at 11 PM at night. It is very similar to a swap meet but everything being sold is new. The shops in the Night Markets cater to tourists, selling all kinds of souvenirs, from t-shirts and magnets, to boomerangs and digeridoos. There are a few other unique stalls, such as a stall where they have 10 minute massages, and one selling Bush gear like Akkubra hats and Drizabone coats. The stall there where I purchased the most items was the "Gift from Australia" stall. I recognized them since I saw one of their stores at the Queen St. Mall in Brisbane. There is also a food court at one end of the Nigh Markets.
What to buy? Cairns souvenirs... Theme: GiftsDirections: On the Esplanade
