    Bocce courts on the Esplanade

    Popular Bocce.

Cairns Council has recently put in two Bocce courts on the Northern end of Cairns Esplanade and they are very popular especially with our Italian community.

I watched it for awhile but still not sure about the rules ( a bit like lawn bowls) but the group of players were very serious as they played the game.

The courts are under huge shade trees and plenty of parking for those who wish to play Bocce.

I believe you would need to bring your own Bocce balls as I could not see any provision for storage.

Anyway if you play Bocce and are looking for a court, then Cairns Esplanade is a wonderful place to have a game or two.

This is a new free attraction on the Esplanade,Cairns.
These large boulders have been put up for people to enjoy another fitness and fun thing to do along the popular Cairns Esplanade.
It is designed to suit all ages and fitness levels and is meant to be an introduction to rock climbing. You do not need to be harnessed or roped as it is a safe and fun activity,I tried it and believe me I got a thorough workout.
Cairns has now got six free fitness stations along the Esplanade all with fantastic views of Trinity Bay.
Don't forget to bring drinking water .

    Pathway along the Nard
    2 more images

The Cairns Esplanade "the Nard" runs along the forefront of Cairns beach called the mudflats,it is not really a swimming beach and lots of tourists get stuck in the mud and have to be pulled out. Along the boardwalk you can jog or walk with exercise stations strategically placed so you can do pushups etc.A cycle lane runs side by side with the walking track with klm signs marking the distance. These pathways have lots of trees to shade you from the harsh tropical sun .Keep going north and you will find tennis courts, volley ball courts and a skateboard rink. For the little children we have Muddies playground with water features ,jungle flying fox and other equipment.

The esplanade in Cairns stretches along the swampy waterfront from the cruise terminal to North Cairns. It's the perfect place to go for a stroll or just to hang around people watching. You'll find BBQ facilities, childrens playgrounds, eateries and lots of other things there.

    Cruise the Esplanade

Cairns is a place that is hopping with activity during the early morning while everyone is boarding their boats out to the reef, and also around the evening time when the sound of doof-doof music is blaring. During the middle of the day however, this is a sleepy little oceanside community with people walking through the park or sitting and reading a book.

Take a walk down the main strip, which is called the Esplanade. From here there are several little cafes, as well as plenty of tourist information kiosks to keep you fed and informed of what to do.

If you are here at night, there is even a little night market that reminded me alot of Singapore for you to grab a little piece of food or drink.

    the pool

we thought the Esplanade was great, theres a fantastic and free swimmimg pool with play areas for children, there are changing rooms, lockers and showers close by.
there are seats, tables and plenty of barbeques for your picnic food

but the best part was the atmosphere, it was so relaxed and friendly

    Pelicans by the Esplanade

There are lots of benches to sit at on the Esplanade of you just want to relax. The tide goes out quite a long way and leaves lots of mud, so you'll see many birds looking for food there.
There were lots of pelicans and they all did that funny thing with their neck, they sort of wobble it - I think it is to keep cool maybe...

    Cairns Esplanade.

This should be your first stop in Cairns. It's the main street, called The Esplanade. Between the city and the water, it's a pleasant place to stroll, to sit, to picnic, to eat, to shop.
Many of the tour companies are based here, there's backpacker accommodation (hotels are just off The Esplanade), cafes, take-away food, restaurants, souvenir shops...

The Esplanade is a great place for a walk, jog, picnic, take a nap on the grass, play a sport on one of the open areas, or check out the nature. There is also a children's play area and a swimming lagoon open from 6 AM to 10 PM daily for no charge. Many of the hostels, hotels, and restaurants in town are located one one side of the street, while the other side is all open area.
