Cairns Flecker Botanical Gardens is a must see for visitors--it is a garden with a difference because it has only tropical plants and trees.
The path ways are delightful and plenty of seats tucked in strategic places for resting, sketching or meditating.
There are plenty of birds and the gardens offer a free bird watching every Tuesday morning and supply you with binoculars--watch out for the tiny black and yellow sun-birds.
Walk across Collins avenue and you can visit the Centenary lakes.
Open and Closing times--7.30am to 5.30pm.
This has to be one of my favourite places to visit.
This is situated in Collins Avenue, which has been recently given a road/garden upgrade, it's just wonderful to drive or walk along this road.
The gardens are beautifully kept. There is a large variety of tropical plants and walk ways through the gardens that are covered in shade by the over head palms and trees, while man made creeks run throughout these walkways.
Be sure to look towards the heavens as you will be amazed to see how many ferns have attached themselves to these trees. You will be delighted to see flowers in bloom and fruits of different plants.
The gardens are divided into different plant areas.
Each being bought together by lush green lawns.
A kiosk is situated here. You can sit among the flowering plants and enjoy breakfast, lunch or just an afternoon snack. There is an inside area, also an outside area, under umbrellas.
Hours are
7.30am to 5.30pm Week days.
8.30am to 5.30pm Weekend and Public Holidays
This is one place, like many others that is not to be missed.
The Gardens have a free entry.
The Botanic Garden isn't as big as many others around Australia, but it's nice nevertheless. It's main focus is on rainforest plants, but there are also some bush plants to be found.
The garden is open from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm and from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
There's a nice restaurant inside the garden.
On our last morning in Cairns we had just ‘a couple of minutes’ to visit Flecker Botanic Gardens before we had to drop off our car. This botanical garden in Cairns was one of the most beautiful and well maintained gardens we ever visited.
During our short visit we saw a lot of palms, ferns, orchids and other tropical flowers.
It was such a pity we didn’t have more time, specially when we did read there are a lot of walks in the park, varying from a short walk through the botanical garden till a walk to the top of a mountain with views over Cairns and the Coral Sea.
Flecker Botanic Gardens has a café/restaurant, is open everyday and there is no admission fee.
