Mission Beach is home to the Cassowary a huge flightless bird which is listed as a endangered species. We never saw one which was unfortunate, as we did look seriously around whilst walking the bush/ rainforest tracks. There are signs everywhere saying "please drive carefully" as most of the Cassowary's have been killed by cars.
There are some other fabulous birds to look out for if visiting Mission Beach like the Australian Ibis, HuntingSea Eagle, Black-necked Stock, Brahming Kite and many many more.

You will have two choice to access this exclusive Island by boat or by plane. I choose the boat which was enjoyable cruise with paradisiac sceneries. What a change compare to my last Swiss lake cruise on a paddle steam boat...
I start my cruise from Cardwell which make my maritime journey longer.
Dunk Island is situated 4.5km offshore from the small coastal town of Mission Beach . The shortest way to get on the Island by boat is from Mission Beach. The QuickCat departs from Clump Point Jetty at Mission Beach to Dunk Island Jetty. Transfer time is approximately 25 minutes. Mission Beach is approximately 2 hours by road south of Cairns.

I stayed on Dunk Island resort and decided to give their 9 hole golf course a go. I am far from being a pro and I was amazed by the stunning views and I have to say I was impressed by design of the course, some holes were real challenges. I paid $20 which included club hire, green fees, 3 golf balls and also a bottle of water. If you stay on Dunk Island resort I can highly recommend the golf course.

If you ever wanted to experience a little bit of paradise then I highly recommend you visit Mission Beach. There are so many attractions to keep any keen traveller or naturalist totally occupied and engaged, the beauty is overwhelming with the Great Barrier Reef at your doorstep, Dunk Island and forgotten private islands scattered endlessly over the crystal clear waters of the Coral Sea.
Mission beach has an abundance of National Parks and endless array of beaches; with beautiful untouched pristine land; endless array of wildlife including the majestic Cassowary bird. A thousand more bird species whispering sweet sounds to the rainforest and trees makes this place a natural paradise.
With its welcoming laid back village and colourful local characters makes Mission an unforgettable experience. If you have a little “Hippy “or beach bum inside your own character then you will slip perfectly into Mission Beach.
