don't take too much luggage with you, there is no space for it anyway!

i recommend that you wear thonges, like an ozzie ;) there is so much sand everywhere that shoes would drive you mad. but be careful when climbing rocks, there could be snakes!

don't take too much toiletries. we were camping near the beach with no toilets or showers around and didn't take a single shower on the island. and YES, we were stinky fellows - but who cares, all of us were ;)

it is important to take a camera and lots of film! you'll see so many things you'd like to photograph that you'd be sad without a camera!

we were provided with the most important things like tents and cooking gear. but of course it is practical to have flashlight (although even that was provided!) and a sleeping bag (if you don't have one, you have to hire it)

  • Backpacks and the best idea unless you are staying at a resort.

A waterproof jacket is quite good if it looks like it will be rainy - an umbrella isn?t very helpful when you are trying to walk through the rainforests or hike - so forget that.

Good walking boots or running shoes are recommended if you plan on doing a lot of walking. Bring a few pairs of socks as there are creeks all over the place and it is likely you will get wet at some point!

As for normal clothes ? jeans, shorts ? anything really. If you go in winter it will get pretty cold at night and during the day, so bring warm clothes and jumpers with you.

    Toilet papper
    Insect repellent
Sunscreen! It does not matter how tanned you want to get - the sun in Australia is very very strong and you need a high level sunscreen such as 15+ for normal people or 30+ if you are pale like me.

There are so many beautiful things to see here that a camera is an excellent idea - maybe keep it in a plastic bag to try and keep the sand out when you aren?t using it.

A waterproof tent! Rainforests aren?t called that for nothing! :P
Bring sleeping bags and a lamp as well. This is very important and something people often forget ? there aren?t light there so you need to bring your own!

All cooking equipment ? pots, pans, a stove, a lighter etc. There is wood at most camping grounds however and BBQs at some as well.

    Food!

There are not many places to buy things to eat on Fraser Island unless you don't venture far away from King Fisher. You definitely have to bring all your food with you to be safe.

    Permits!

You absolutely need a camping permit if you wish to camp on the Island and a car permit if you will be driving.

You can find the offices and their contact number in which you can obtain these permits at the bottom of this page: http://www.hervey.com.au/FraserIsland/default.htm

Backpack - for carrying all your stuff
    fannypack

    Hiking shoes
a good hat (like mine in the picture) to protect you from the sun (many people get skin
cancer on their ears or nose).
    shorts (because it's hot)
    extra change of clothing
sun glasses with good UV protection

lots of sunscreen (Amazingly, we saw a lot of fried Australians and tourists)
    toothpaste and toothbrush
bugspray (although we didn't seem to really need it)

A good digital camera, lots of memory, and extra batteries

    beach towel
