Knifeblade by Myndo I would say the Knifeblade Sandblow is a classical wandering dune. They are formed by the wind and slowly wander. They engulf forests in their path at rates up to 1m a year. You can find them at several places on the island (no surprise, since the island is of sand). Wungul, Stonetool and Knifeblade are the three most known. Leave a Comment

Lake Wabby, Fraser by Myndo Lake Wabby is another wonderful lake on this island. To get there, you must walk a little (never hurts). There is a steep Dune right on one rim of the lake, you can sit on it and hold your feet in the water, or go for a swim. The water is quite warm (like a bath). If you are lucky, you can also watch the sea-eagle there. Climb the Dune and you feel as if in a desert. Leave a Comment Directions: Close to Eurong ( a little north of it).

Pinnacles, Fraser by Myndo The Pinnacles are one of the many eroded sandstone- hills on Cathedral beach. As you can see, it really depends on the weather you have, what the colors are. On the right side: at good weather and sunshine On the left side: same with rain and clouds. Other Sandstone-Monuments are: Red Canyon, Rainbow Gorge, Poyungan Rocks... Leave a Comment

On Indian Head, Fraser by Myndo Make the short climb up the Indian Head (a stone structure on the eastern beach) to have a good overlook over this part of Fraser island. A little down the beach (north) are the Champagne Pools. Normally you can´t go for a swim on this side of the island since there are some nasty currents and sharks in the sea. But the Champagne Pools are a little separated from the sea by some stones. So have a swim (or bath) here. You have to be a little careful anyway, since the waves get in if they are big. Lake Mc Kenzie, Fraser by Myndo Lake Mc Kenzie is one of the clearest lakes, not only on the island... The water has been percolated through sand, where organic compounds have been removed by minute quantities of aluminium and iron compounds. Its great for a swim or just lying on the beach - better than lying on the beach to the sea - too much traffic, high waves and sharks in the water ... Leave a Comment

The Champagne Pools by Jmill42 Just north of Indian Head along the eastern-most part of the island lies the Champagne Pools. Basically this area is a rock enclosed area that bubbles up with each wave that crashes down. It is a cool place to hang out at the end of the day and relax in the ocean without the waves tossing you around. Leave a Comment

Part of the Maheno by Jmill42 The wreckage of the Tasmanian Liner, the Maheno, is located on Fraser's eastern beach. This ship was headed for the junkyard, even before it was driven ashore in 1935 by a massive storm. Today, the hullis being deteriorated by the salt environment of the sea. Leave a Comment

´Explore the inner parts of the island as well. The vegetation is sometimes really thick, like in a rain forest. There are special plants to be found here like the Scribble Gum, an Eucalyptus tree wich bark looks like someone has written on it... Also driving around the inner parts of the island is fun. The roads (if you want to call them so) are all sand and with deep holes... Offroad driving on the road so to say. 4WD is essential! A typical road you can see in the second picture. Leave a Comment

by Mez77 Central Station was originally established as a forestry camp when there was logging on Fraser Island. Nowadays, this beautiful rainforest area houses a display explaining the development of the island and its various flora and fauna, an information centre and picnic area. Central station has a short boardwalk around Wanggoolba Creek and through the rainforest. Leave a Comment Address: Halfway between east and west beach

Me at Indian Head by Mez77 Indian Head is the most easterly point on Fraser Island and rises about 60 metres from the water. Once you are up on the headland, on a calm day you can look down into the water and see all types of marine life. This photo was taken on a windy day, so there isn't much to be seen. During whale season, you can also see the mothers travelling south with their calves. Leave a Comment
