Bird / Animal Parks., Gold Coast
While on a trip out to O'Reilly's Guesthouse from the Gold Coast, we saw some beautiful parrots in the semi-wild. What I mean by that is that they were actually in a tree outside the guesthouse, able to fly away, but were drawn in by all the tourists feeding them.
There was a circular path around the tree, and bird feed was available to feed them. If you put a little seed in your hair, the birds would actually land on your head and eat it out! Quite fun....
At the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, you can either watch the Lorikeet's feed for FREE, or for a small donation, buy a plate of Lorikeet food [Wombaroo milk] to feed, this will be re-filled for NO extra charge.
This is a really fun thing to do if you've never done it before!
Once you have paid your donation, then your given a plate which is filled by staff with Wombaroo milk. Next, find an area, hold the plate up high and hope a Lorikeet comes to feed! There are usually plenty around, but do remember, these are WILD BIRDS so nothing can make them come if they wish not too! They spend their nights roosting in the trees at Burleigh and Coolangatta , then fly to the Hinterland during the day to feed on Grevillia, Bottlebrush, Banksia, Melaleuca and Acacia blossom. You probably will see many in the wild feeding on these Trees.
The Lorikeet's that frequent the area are Rainbow Lorikeets and Scaly Breasted Lorikeets
The lorikeets stop for breakfast - 8am feeding time
and then on their way back from the hinterland to roost at night. - 4pm feeding.
The sessions are at 8am and 4pm.
Photo's are taken by a Photographer which you can buy.
Free to watch

There is so much more to the Gold Coast, than just beautiful beaches.
The Hinterland, which is only about 30 minutes drive from the city, opens up a whole new world.
Here you will experience nature, wildlife, waterfalls, mountains, and forests... Lovely natural bushland, where you can enjoy hiking and bushwalks.

Favorite thing: Another cute lorikeet! :) If you don't like to have birds on your head/arms/shoulders etc then don't pick up any of the food while at this place...you will surely have birds everywhere if they see you have food. :) It's fun though to have piles of birds climbing all over you - until they start fighting...haha... ;)
Favorite thing: Some gorgeous rainbow lorikeets feeding at Currumbin Sanctuary... These guys will land all over you if they want to...don't be scared, they won't hurt you... :)
