Orchid Avenue: Clubbing the night away!!

by goldcoaster Written Mar 21, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Orchid Avenue in Surfers Paradise offers a vast range of nightclubs. Just a block from the beach, it really comes alive at night, especially on the weekends with trippers come down from Brisbane.

The clubs are open till 5am so you really can dance till you drop. My picks are Shooters for a start then move across the road to the three level Drink Nightclub. If you continue north up the street there are about 15 others to choose from.

It is important to keep an eye on your drinks as there have been rare incidents of drink spiking but better to be safe than sorry.

Dress Code: Smart casual is the way to go. Nothing too casual, thongs (a type of rubber shoe not underwear) or singlets, but jeans, sneakers and collar shirts are best for men while the ladies can get away with anything.

Hard Rock Cafe Surfers Paradise: Hard Rock Cafe Surfers Paradise

    by kumachan200x Written Dec 31, 2003

In the heart of Australia's Gold Coast, the folks at the Hard Rock Cafe Surfer's Paradise definitely make waves in your tired old dining experience. After avoiding the zones, surfers and everyone else love to hang ten around our famous establishment for a fanciful foods riptide. A fast-paced town to be sure, Surfer's Paradise is also home to auto racing at the Honda Indy- so fuel up here for an engine-revving time! With regular live entertainment and enough rock memorabilia to fill Davy Jones' Locker, the Surfer's Paradise Hard Rock Cafe will leave you righteously stoked!

    Lots!!

After a day on the beach, visiting the theme parks or exploring the Hinterland, there's a plethora of night time activities to satisfy everyone - whether you're in the mood to party or just want a romantic evening out.

Surfers Paradise is the Coast's after-dark entertainment hotspot, with a huge selection of nightclubs, bars and restaurants for younger and older patrons.

Popular Surfers nightspots include Cocktails and Dreams, Shooters Saloon Bar, Hard Rock Cafe, Melba's, and Billy's Beach House, while Orchid Avenue and the beach end of Cavill Avenue offer alfresco cafes, restaurants and snack bars. The Pub, Crawl and Cruise tour is a MUST for those that enjoy party games, meeting new people, dancing and drinking! Nightclubs are also located at Coolangatta and Broadbeach

If you're in the mood for a great live show, gambling, dine casually or formally or just enjoy a relaxing drink with friends, Conrad Jupiters is open 24 hours.

A quick monorail ride across the highway from the Casino is the Broadbeach Mall, which boasts some of the Gold Coast's best restaurants covering a wide range of international cuisines.

The Tweed contains some of Australia's leading licensed clubs, such as Twin Towns and Seagulls, offering poker machines, dining and major entertainment.

For serious theatre buffs, the Gold Coast Arts Centre has regular top-line productions, classical music concerts, ballets and recitals.

Dress Code: The clubs tend to be smart casual to club-wear.

There are too many to mention, there is a party for every occasion, the alternative music pubs, irish pubs, Clubs.
My fav must be Cocktails and Dreams and that because of the awesome 70's retro disco night they had every tuesday, come dressed and party.
The quality isn't more than in other places, it is just the atmosphere that is great, everybody is just having fun

Dress Code: on the tuesday nights, flares for funksters.

Margaritas on the River - Bundall
Not really a nightclub - not really just a restaurant. It's a terrific place to sit back and drink with friends. Great Margaritas and Daquiris and great food too. Fantastic atmosphere right on the water - only 5 min cab ride to Surfers afterwards.

    Dress Code: Smart Casual

The best club on the coast - many of us go there afterwork (work clothes totally acceptable). Has a restaurant attached to the nightclub.

Great music, fantastic atmosphere! For all the times I've been there, I have never seen one 'altercation' between patrons - something quite rare for the coast's club scene!

Dress Code: Smart Casual - a little more 'upmarket' than alot of Cavill Avenue clubs.

Plenty of places near the Cavill Mall.
You've got to have some fun at night. Wednesday nights are hospitality nights, it's big.

Dress Code: Very loose standards compare to Brisbane. Apparently you can wear sandshoes in most places.

In Surfer's Paradise you must go to a bar called Shooters. It gets just absolutley packed but is the best! You can lounge on the couches, go downstairs for a bit different, mellower music, or shake hard on the dance floor.
Shooters is very central, it's all in the same area as the other clubs and bars, so it's easy to stagger from place to place.

Dress Code: Dress up! No sandals, jeans, shorts, or anything casual, they won't let you in.

Shooters is probably the least seediest club, though you are talking to a person who doesn't like the Goldies night life. Shooters is a Saloon style bar with pool tables and dark lighting (equivalent of beer goggles on when on the hunt). If you like the sleaze feel and wanna tinsle it up with the best of them, strip down and go hard people. Cocktails and Dreams has some boppy dance music to shake it up to, and downstair in The Party they mix from alternative rock to dance to pop - whatever the Top 40 is playing on the radio usually.
WARNING: the bouncers on the Gold Coast are notorously rough. Girls - you are not safe either, I'm one of the lucky ones they obviously got confused for a professional boxer and gave a concusion, bruises all over my body and given my state a that point, a night in the lock up for being a wee bit upset and angry at the spineless, dickless.....etc. bouncers. Having lived with a few before, a clue is, they are all on steriods and given this is normally their second job they are provided pills free to keep them up. The combination is lethal and each nightclub must have our best lawyers given they are still open. Basically, avoid any assocation with them.. Girls, don't even flirt..Reject them later...and you're in trouble. At the least they'll just pick you up and throw you out of the club for no reason. Enough crappin on. Just take that warning seriously, they are apes with the brains of grasshoppers. > do I sound a little bitter? That was one experience that rocked my world so maybe a little senstive about it. No doubt you'll have no probs with them.

    Dress Code: Girls - anything.
Guys - Not shorts, no sandals, no hats. Go the nice jeans or trousers (hint: your ass look sbetter in trousers!!) and a dress shirt with a collar, just in case the bouncer doesn't like you, don't give them an excuse.

If people-watching isn't your kind of activity, you may like to watch a 'live' entertainment show instead (like what we did).
