Couran Cove Beach (GCCC website)

This is definitely undiscovered, but only a couple of kilometres from Surfers Paradise. A large sand island 20km long, it has empty beaches. A ferry runs from the west side of The Spit for about $7 return. A more expensive ferry to Couran Cove runs several time past the campgrounds.

Wallaby came around for lunch

The only way to this island is by Boat.
We took the 11.45am - 4.30pm cruise to the Island with Tall ship Island Adventures.

A Catamaran takes you to the Island. On the way you pass Sovereign Island, where Million dollars homes are located. As you near Sth Stradbroke, which is on you right hand side, keep your eye out for Wallabies on the beach, we saw a couple.

Here, you land at the dock. There is a bbq lunch, extra $15 (2009) set in a nice tropical setting. There is live entertainment by singing. The Wallabies seem to know when food is around, a few of them came around the tables.

INCLUDED IN THE PRICE IS...............
FREE USE OF......................Paddle Boats, Canoes, Hobie Cats, Pool Table, Beach Volley Ball.

There are over optional things to do, NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE..........
4wd, sand duning, parasailing, jet ski hire, doofer rides, seaplane & more.

The beach is nice, and there was hardly any people here, so you had a lot of it to yourself.

You can go back to Mariners cove by Catamaran or Yacht.

You can do the afternoon trip for $58,

or.....................

Combine a Whale cruise when in season, in the morning and do the island in the afternoon for $99.

Check for offers, as THEY ARE OFTEN DISCOUNTED.

Departs from Mariner's Cove, Opposite the Sheraton Hotel on Seaworld Blvde.

New house being built on Sovereign Island
3 more images

This enclave of islands is surrounded on all sides by the Gold Coast’s Broadwater and beyond to the South Pacific Ocean and are only a short drive north of Surfers Paradise.

The prestigious island is made up of luxury homes with deepwater moorings and direct ocean access for the boating enthusiasts. Here you will see the most beautiful, expensive homes on the Gold Coast, and most probably, the biggest most expensive private Yachts and Boats.

At the moment, a $50million house is being built on a block of land that cost $4.2million, must go back to see the finished product!!

Nice for a drive around and browse.

Sovereign Islands are located toward the northern end of the Gold Coast and are connected to Paradise Point by bridge.

I made decision to visit golden coast in a rush way, coz my flatmate was told to work over there on X'mas 2003. I didn't want to be alone at Sydney, so I taged along with her there for an almost free vocation. This is the 'surfer's paradise' beach where we spent in the first day afternoon. It may be the longest beach in Australia which is so incredible.

South Stadbroke Island Getaway !

South Stradbroke Island

'Straddie' was our favourite getaway when we were kids. We went there quite often with family in my younger years, and then with my mates when I was older.

Camping on South Stradbroke Island is the perfect retreat if you want to escape the fast pace of everyday life to totally relax in a holiday amongst its natural and undeveloped beauty.

The island has beautiful unpopulated beaches, several resorts that offer facilities for day trippers, including water sports and environmental tours and is also great for beach fishing, swimming and surfing.

How to get there:
If you don't know someone with a boat, the ferry services to Stradbroke leave from Runaway Bay, about 20 minutes' drive north of Surfers Paradise. It takes about 15 minutes for the ferry to reach this 20-km-long sandy island with its quiet beaches.
