Sea World Monorail
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Sea World Monorail was the first monorail system in Australia and takes you on a scenic trip through the park. The monorail is an excellent way of getting around the park with stops at the top of Sea World and at the Water park as well as the Sea World Nara Resort.

    Sky High Skyway
  • Tip Rating:
  • Get a bird's eye view of Sea World from the Sky High Skyway which takes you from the top of the park right in the heart of all the attractions. It is also an excellent way to see features including the Polar Bear Shores, Cartoon Beach and the Dolphin Nursery Pools.

    Air Ways.: Virgin Blue
  • Tip Rating:
  • Virgin Blue and Qantas are the two major airlines that fly from Perth to Coolangatta Airport (30min drive from Gold Coast) or Brisbane Airport (1hr drive from Gold Coast). We chose to fly Virgin Blue to Brisbane Airport because it was a direct flight and a little bit cheaper as well than flying to Coolangatta via Melbourne. I was told by someone that you only fly Virgin once because it is a no frills airline and somewhat lacking in comforts. But as we departed Perth midnight we weren't concerned about getting a meal because we don't normally eat at that time anyway. They don't supply blankets or pillows but we came prepared with some soft neckrests and light blankets so this also wasn't a dilemna. If you plan to fly this route I do recommend that you check the latest online pricing with Virgin Blue and Qantas because they are very competitive and do offer regular specials.

    Public Transport.: Surfside Buses!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gold Coast bus services run 24 hours a day and can get you to at least the main street of most suburbs and shopping centres. Services throughout the Gold Coast and Tweed are operated by Surfside Buslines which offer a 24 hour service along the highway. Look for the stops at 300 metre intervals. Timetables are available through the Surfside Buslines website. To catch the bus you need to wait at a bus stop and hail the bus as it approaches you. You need to have the cash fare, ticket and your concession card ready as you board. Express buses to the theme parks are also available from Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Southport to Runaway Bay. Connections to Queensland Rail services are made at Robina Station, Nerang Station and Helensvale Station.

    Car / Motor home.: Europcar
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are a number of reliable car rental companies to choose from on the Gold Coast including all the major ones at the airport. Europcar offer discounts to Virgin Blue passengers so we managed to get a good deal from them. The 8 person Tarago cost about $1,600 for 2 weeks and the 5 person Mitsubishi wagon cost around $1,200 for 2 weeks which included insurances. We covered a lot of miles over the fortnight on the Gold Coast so renting a car for that period was a very wise choice. There are plenty of taxis here and public transport is also available but moving 10 people around to the various attractions would make that a challenge for us each time.

Car / Motor home.: When travelling from south by car
  • Tip Rating:
  • When travelling by road from south take the turning at Mooball (Warning, locals pronounce it 'Moble') and go the coast road. You bypass Murwillumbah and it takes 20min off your journey. Plus it's more scenic. You come out at Kingscliff. If travellin' by plane Coolangatta airport is very accessable to all of Gold Coast. The bus service is very good as well.
