Heron Island is a true coral cay surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef. Lot of activities: Scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, reef walks and much more.
All activities can be booked at the Heron Island Resort.
You can also just take a walk around the island. There are lots of birds in the trees, and if you’re lucky you can watch rays and sharks very close to the beach.

The one and normally only reason most people end up on Heron Island is to dive the Great Barrier Reef. Be it with the P& O Resort or the Research Station which occupy this coral cay on the outer reef.
It has some superb dive sites that are reached by a short boat trip. My recommendation is the Blue Pools where I saw turtles, reef sharks, rays and a huge array of fish. If you don't have a dive ticket you can sit a PADI course or snorkel directly from Shark Bay where you will see all the creatures I mentioned from the dive.
