Ban-na Thai Restaurant: Best Thai in town!

Ban-na Thai Restaurant

This is my favourite restaurant!

For me it ticks all the boxes. From the food to the service and the decor you can't go past it.

Inside is nice and roomy with pleasant furnishings and the staff are always friendly and efficient.

Favorite Dish: I always go for the chicken Gang Panang...a red curry dish made with coconut milk.

The Pad Thai goes down well too!

I can't really comment about the rest of the menu but friends rave about the seafood sizzling platter.

Actually it all looks pretty good!

The Deck: Great steaks!

The Deck...complete with heaters it was freezing!

This place is a busy and popular steakhouse down on the Marina. They cater for both small and large groups and the service is quick and efficient.

It is one of those places where they display the raw steaks and they always look fresh and tempting.

It is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Favorite Dish: I had a rib fillet which melted in my mouth...cooked just how I like it.
Each steak comes with a large baked potato done in alfoil and sour cream plus a salad. You can order side dishes of chips/vegies etc if you like.
Other choices were pork chops and chicken but mainly the menu was made up of different steaks including the very expensive Waghu Beef and Rump, T Bones and Eye Fillet etc.

This Bistro/Restaurant has recently opened up in Mackay. It is situated below newly the erected Rivage condominium. Most of the seating is outside in pleasant surroundings and there are some tables inside.

It is fully licenced and there is also a small gourmet deli/grocery store attached selling premium local produce.

Nearby is a boardwalk along the Pioneer River if you wish to take a stroll.

It is also right beside the Blue Lagoon pools which makes it a great place to go for lunch after a swim.

Favorite Dish: We went on a Saturday night and I chose a steak sandwich. It was huge and came with a good serving of chips. Cost was $10!

Others had Crab Sandwich, Chicken, Fish and Salad and it all looked good!

Out door dining

This is a nice little restaurant which offers good Asian food.

It is quiet and intimate and located in the City Heart.

Outdoor dining is an option during the day.

Favorite Dish: I had Sweet n Sour Pork which was tasty.

A friend let me taste her entree which was marinated tofu....it was lovely and I wish I had've ordered some.

B'NW Asian Cuisine: Best Asian food in town.
lou31 profile photo

This restaurant is small and it is situated in a busy arcade amongst shops and cafes. Their $12 lunches are popular with about 10 dishes to choose from.

I had a terrible experience with the owner here recently. He was very rude and openly argued with me in front of everyone. I had been one of the first to order a main meal and our table of 16 were all happily munching away with me still waiting. When I complained he became quite aggessive and arguementive.

I was shaken and feeling ill by the time my meal arrived!

Favorite Dish: Singapore Noodles.

Mackay Grand Mercure: Biggest meals in town.
lou31 profile photo

The new Mackay Grand Mercure

The A.M. Bar and Bistro at the 'Mercure' has the biggest meals I have ever seen ( or eaten!).

They have recently made changes to this restaurant with table service only and the buffet option is no more. The prices have risen and the menu is limited. Apparently the food is still good and the meals are large.

It cannot be described as quiet and intimate dining. More of a happening place with a Pokies room next door and over from that again a lively up market bar. However it is still a great place to dine out with friends and the food is good.

This place is also open for breakfast and lunch.

Favorite Dish: I had the garlic prawns ( entree size) for $15.50

Other meals included Salt and Pepper Calamari, Grilled Barramundi, Wagyu Beef and Chicken Parmisana to name a few.

The Coffee Club: Popular but a bit overated.
lou31 profile photo
lou31 466 reviews
Sidewalk eating area.

The Coffee Club is a popular franchise in Australia and we have two establishments here in Mackay.
One in Wood Street in the City Heart and one in Canelands Shoppingtown.
They offer a wide selection of snacks, light and main meals, baguettes, salads, sandwiches, quiches, pastries, cakes, slices....the list goes on.
The food is generally good but a little highly priced compared to other places.

Favorite Dish: I recently had an Hawaiian Open Grill which was very tasty. I should have just ordered one shared it with my daughter because I couldn't eat it all!

The BLT is another of my favourites.

My main problem with the Coffee Club is that now matter how adamant I am about wanting a HOT coffee I always end up with a warm one. I know there are rules about this but really I like my coffee hot. If I can't get it the way I like it I just don't go to that establishment if I can help it.

If you enjoy Mexican food then you can't go passed Montezuma's.

Situated in Wood street it is in the City Heart area and close to the night life and coffee shops etc.

Favorite Dish: I chose some enchiladas which were very good. We had a table of 20 or so and the service was quick and efficient.

Toon Tong Thai: Good Thai Food!
lou31 profile photo
lou31 466 reviews

This well run restaurant is another popular eating establishment here in Mackay. It has been in business for years which is a good indicator of a rest it's success. The service and food are both very good and the menu is interesting and varied.

Favorite Dish: I recently had one of the banquets...cost about $36 each.

There was too much food for the 12 or so of us..we couldn't eat it all.

I can't remember all the dishes but there was a Chicken and Cashews, a Thai Chicken Curry and Massaman Beef included.

Angelo's: Good Italian Food
lou31 profile photo
lou31 466 reviews
Outside ambiance of Angelo's

This restaurant has been recently refurbished and is very popular with the locals. The owner has not long returned from a holiday in Italy and is newly inspired and rearing to go with his new menu.
The food is good but don't turn up expecting a quiet meal experience. It is extremely noisy inside...it's like being in a tin shed. They need to either hang some curtains or wall hangings or lay down some large rugs to soak up the noise.
Another option for customers is to eat outdoors which can be a very pleasant experience depending on the weather...it can get windy by the sea!

Favorite Dish: I have only eaten here once and chose the Seafood Risotto which was nice but could have had more seafood in it.
The pizzas however looked scrumptious and is what I will be ordering next time I go. I tasted one and it really was very good!
