    Bike

by didgeridorien Written Mar 9, 2006 465 reviews

You can cycle around the island, but you'll have to be in some sort of shape. Some of the hills are quite steep. You can rent a bike in Picnic Bay, or if you don't feel up to it, a scooter. Busses also drive on the island, but the tickets are expensive and they don't go very often.

From Sydney hop on a cheap Virgin Blue flight up to Townsville. From there catch a ferry from the habour to the islands. Once you get there you just have to decide which bay you want to go to. There are many buses leaving from the ferry drop off point that will take you where you need to go for very little.

    Ferry to Magnetic Island

by bluesmama Written May 25, 2004 302 reviews
    Picnic Bay

It only takes about 15 minutes to sail to Magnetic Island from Townsville. There are two different terminals, one by Great Barrier reef wonderland and one near the casino. All the ferries sail to Picnic Bay, some continue on to Arcadia.
