We recently experienced a better than average dining out night at Billy’s on the Bay at the Waltzing Matilda Motel at Brighton on the Redcliffe Peninsula. We had eaten there before but it was many moons ago. It was a delight to find such good fare in unpretentious surroundings in the suburbs.
Of course, Billy’s has a waterfront location with views of Moreton Bay just across the beach-front road and it was the night of the full moon…..very romantic.
Billy offers a carte with eight starters ( average price $16) including four sea food options.
Two salads (Greek or Asian) are available (approx. $21)
Pasta lovers can indulge in Fettuccini done five ways (price depending on how much seafood is involved (average $23).
Mains include Fish, Steak, Chicken, Prawns and Billy’s signature dish Duck Roasted in Plum Sauce.
The fish featured is Snapper done five ways ($27-33). Chicken Florentine ($30) Chicken/ Prawn Kiev ($34). Steak dishes include Eye Fillet done to your liking served with mushroom, pepper or hollandaise sauce. Billy provides two sizes of steak : Lady’s ($28.50) Gent’s ($34.50). Toppings of Garlic Prawn or Calamari are available for the big eaters ($7.50 – 5.50).
All mains are served with cooked vegetables or with chips and salad.
    Three desserts are available ($9.50).
    Children are catered for.

Wine list is small but adequate featuring five sparklings; eight whites and five reds available by glass and bottle. (least expensive $26.50 for Jacob’s Creek red or white).

Specials Board : $29.95 two course rump-steak dinner with garlic bread starter.
Plenty of parking outside on the esplanade.
Open Tuesday Saturday night from 5:30 pm.

Favorite Dish: Madam chose the Snapper Almondine – served with toasted flaked almond crust and lemon butter sauce. She enjoyed the meal immensely.
Always a sucker for Duck, he just had to try the chef’s signature dish. It turned out to be top notch. Long roasted to flesh-falling-off-the-bone consistency, the duck was sumptuous in its plum sauce.
We chose to drink wine by the glass and thought the wines we chose we were good value.
We will be back. (full moon next month, perhaps??)
Note Mid Apr 2012 - return visit - missed the full moon but totally enjoyed the experience.
Late Sep, 2012 we dined at Billy's On the Bay...most enjoyable... food and service very good.
Early Jan 2013....back for more duck and barra. Not disappointed! glad we booked...school holidays so there was a big turn up. Thankfully there was enough duck for me!!!
