Steve Irwin (the late, great, Crocodile Hunter) has an unexpected presence in Mooloolaba. There is a statue of Steve and his two children in the park area between the Esplanade and the beach in front of an Australia Zoo Shop located in the northern part of the commercial strip on the Esplanade.
You can purchase Australia Zoo merchandise at the shop and use the Travel Agent facility to arrange visits to the zoo and to other places in the region as well.
There is a secure childrens' play area at the back of the shop which could be handy if you have toddlers in tow.

Point Cartwright is a great spot to explore after a day at the beach, and is one of the best spots for sunset. Unfortunately when I was up there last, it was overcast in the evening and there wasn't much of a sunset. Despite this, it is a great spot to look out over Mooloolaba, and the rest of ths sunshine coast, and to watch the fishing boats go in and out in the morning or afternoon.
Point Cartwright is also famous amongst surfers - to quote one: "When carties gets over two foot it becomes a flawless mechanical wave machine that will leave you breathless after every ride." but its not a spot for beginners, or those who are afraid of sharks, so be warned!
