Although Richmond is quiet a long way from the coast, it is easy to go there by bus. The Greyhound leaves Townsville at 7.00am and arrives in Richmond at 1.35pm. On the way it stops in Charters Towers and Hughenden (and of course other little places), and after Richmond in continues to Tennant Creek via Julia Creek, Cloncurry and Mt.Isa.
Going from Richmond to the coast, the bus leaves Richmond at 12.15pm and reaches Townsville at 6.55pm.
The landscape on the way can not directly be called spectacular, but I still loved it. To see the flat, brownish outback landscape pass by, to see its vastness and harshness, was very special to me and I could never get sick of it.
As the bus from or to Richmond always stops in Townsville, this gives you great connections to the north (Mission Beach and Cairns) and to the south (Airlie Beach, Mackay and many more).
A one way ticket from Richmond to Townsville or vice versa for a single adult is about 90AUD.
