The view looking Nth to Nth Stradbroke.

If you are budgeting your cash I wouldn't recommend this as the first thing to do (the watersports are what I woulld head for 1st!) but it is well worth it to get great views of the Island, the Gold Coast and the ocean.

    The cost was about $50
Flight was about 20 miuntes and had some fantastic photo opportunities!

The pilots usually stroll around the pool area seeing if people are interested in a flight - otherwise reception will organise it for you. The flights were departing from the end of the main marina while I was there, but Mum said when she went recently (we finally sent her away for a well-earned holiday) they departed from the watersports beach.

The inside of the interpretive centre

Couran Cove has a philospphy of kind-of educating people about why the resort works so well. They have a small interpretive centre near the general store with various diplays about the Island's Aboriginal, Maritime and commercial history and it is a good place to get a feel for the place before going for an explore. There is no charge to have a wander through the displays and they are very well-done.

A Wallaby at the Sports Centre

Couran Cove has lots of wildlife in amongst the activity. If you are from overseas and haven't yet seen Australia's native animals here is a great place! There are wallabies hopping around the place, and they often congregate on Spa Island to eat the grass that grows there. Also expect to see lots of birdlife - you might be fortunate enough to see a whistling kite - the bird on the Couran Cove logo. And you are sure also to see a goanna - the big lizards that usually hang around in the forest where the nature cabins are.

    Me on the climbing wall.

If that's your thing, there is a small rock-climbing wall on the island, you have to do it as an organised activity and the wall isn't that challenging (if you regularly climb outdoors or in a climbing gym) but still good to hang about or for first-time climbers!

Think it cost about $5 or so...

Just a note of caution - the 'hard' wall gets full morning sun and the holds were so hot I had pink achy fingertips so if they have afternoon climbs these may be the better option!

The sunset looking out towards the Broadwater.

Make sure you are out and about at sunset - we caught some stunning ones while we were there!

This photo was taken at the Watersports Beach on the Western side of the resort - it looks out over the calm waters of the Broadwater and towards the mangroves on the opposte bank of the channel.

    Couran Cove sunsets...beautiful!

Given the right time of year, clouds and time of day there are some stunning sunsets!

Check out this one taken from the watersports beach looking across to the broadwater.
