Slip Slop Slap
  • Tip Rating:
  • The sun down under can be fiercely hot and unrellenting causing one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. The Slip Slop Slap campaign started way back in the 80's encouraging Aussies to protect their skin by Slipping on a shirt, Slopping on some sunscreen and Slapping on a hat.

    "I love this sunburnt country,
    But not a sunburnt face.
    So even on a cloudy day,
    Slop on sunscreen just in case."

    Books
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you are planning to explore Springbrook National Park there are a couple of books that I can recommend to you.

    The first one is "Take A Walk" which covers all National Parks from Port MacQuarie in mid-Northern New South Wales to Brisbane in southern Queensland. You can purchase one on this link to Take A Walk.

    The second book is a small publication called "Springbrook - A Visitor's Guide" which can be purchased at Rosellas at Canyon Lookout Café.

    * The National Park preserves rainforests and eucalypt forests in the cliff lined headwaters of rivers and creeks flowning to the Gold Coast;
    * Purlingbrook Falls drops a sheer 190 metres to the rocks below and therefore the second highest free-falling fall of Queensland;
    * Mount Springbrook is 730 metres high;
    * About 23 million years ago a broad shield volcano dominated the region, extending approx. 80 km across;
    * An erosion caldera that formed around the Mt. Warning resulted in the crescent of perpendicular cliffs that extend from Springbrook (Northern Rim) to the Lamington Plateau on to the Tweed Range;

    * The last eruption of Mt. Warning occured more than 22 million years ago.
    * Springbrook N.P. can be grouped into 4 forest types:
    - Open eucalypt forest;
    - Warm temperature rainforest;
    - Cool temperature rainforest;
    - Sub-tropical rainforest.

    Fosters Lager.
    Let’s make no secret of it. We both like a nice cold glass of beer. Being abroad is always a challenge to find a beer we like, which reflects our taste of having a beer. In Australia it was sometimes rather difficult. We found out that there are quite some local beers, only known in that particular area. But anyway, we did like the international known Foster’s Lager.

    Fosters was founded in Melbourne in 1886 by two American brothers, William and Ralph Foster, who happened to own a refrigeration plant, which was necessary to brew beer in Australia's hot climate. Foster's Lager uses the slogan "The Amber Nectar" in Australia. While popular in many countries, particularly where it is brewed locally, Foster's Lager does not enjoy widespread popularity in Australia by any means. It struggles to compete with a large number of other "local beers" (low-cost and mass-produced varieties) usually depending on state, for example XXXX, Carlton Draught, Tooheys, Coopers, West End, Swan, Emu Bitter or Victoria Bitter.
