My thanks to VT member an good friend Kate-Me for pointing this place out to me.
Just half an hour from Adelaide lies the small tourist town of Hahndorf. Apparently, at one time this area had been settled by German immigrants and they have played up that heritage. Along with the souvenier shops and pretty places, you will find German restaurants and delis, beer, and bakeries. Some of the sausage makers had tempting looking wares. A lot of the businesses here are completely Australian on the inside, but have a German exterior.
Fondest memory: If you've seen this kind of place before, Hahndorf won't hold too many surprises for you. You'll also know that these kind of theme towns universally offer good food without cracking your wallet wide open and invariablyhave quality handcrafts. If we hadn't been on the road, we would have spent more time here.
