The Flinders Ranges are an area of mountain ranges north of Adelaide. They are a remote area where it is difficult to get to on public transport. You either need to go there by your own car, preferably a 4WD, or on a guided tour. I did a tour with Wallaby Tracks Adventure Tours and had a fantastic weekend full of wonderful hiking. I was the only customer on the tour and so it was more like travelling with a friend! We saw Wilepena Pound, a huge crater and the most famous place in the area, visited Arkaroo Rock with ancient Aboriginal rock paintings, drove through the interesting Brachina Gorge, hiked up Dutchman's Stern and did many other things.

If you like hiking, I strongly recommend a trip to the area. It is not visited by many overseas tourists and it is a beautiful, unspoilt area where you can do great hikes and also see a lot of wildlife. In fact, I never so so many wild wallabies as during that weekend! Landscapewise, these mountains may not be what you expect in Australia, but it is an extraordinary region.

Several tour companies conduct tours to the Flinders Ranges from Adelaide, some are return tours and some go from Adelaide to Alice Springs (or vice versa). From Adelaide to Quorn, the major town of the region, it is about four to five hours by car. The nearest coach and train station is Port Augusta.

If you wish to read more about this place, you can also find more info on my Flinders Ranges page.

the flinders rangers is a great spot to vist about 250 miles from adelaide , but well worth a vist , bush walking is a must to see the wild life , maps and routes are availble you can take a short walk or a long walk , you must take a container of water with you , and a netted hat is great advice too , as the flies can be a pest , follow the basic rules and you will have a great time ,
