Hampshire Hotel Backpackers is a pub and cheap backpackers lodging in the centre of Adelaide. It is located on Grote Street, on the corner of Bowen Street, just a few minutes walk from the central bus station.
It is very much a down to earth Aussie place with traditional pub grub and a bartender that calls you "mate"!
There are a few tables out front on Grote Street and a large air conditioned interior. I sat out front in the sun one afternoon during my visit to the city in April 2006.
I could see from the chalkboards outside that the pub serves a variety of food. For example, fish and chips (6 AUD), sandwiches and steaks.
I got the impression that it was more a place for the resident backpackers to sink a few beers rather than a place to go for a sit down meal.
The cheapest beer available on tap is the local West End Pale (just 4 AUD a pint), while bottles of Corona and Stella will set you back 5.50 AUD. I opted for a cold pint of the cheap local brew.
This place will appeal mainly to backpackers, either as a place to stay or a place to have a few beers and some pub food.
