Mesa Lunga: WINE & TAPAS plus
We were looking for a light snack for Sunday lunch after two evening meals that had seriously inflated our waistlines. We were delighted that we chose Mesa Lunga for tapas & a glass or two. The restaurant decor is modern chic with black chairs, dark tables on a white tiled floor in two areas inside - one suited to a la carte dining ; the other close to the bar with high tables and stools suited to tasting the tapas and drink offerings. The Spanish theme is provided by wrought iron light fittings, ceramic tiles around drink display and the hanging legs of jamon in display case.
We enjoyed lunch so much we booked for dinner and enjoyed both.
As well as tapas ($3-23) there is an a la carte diner menu. Entree: $8-$14; Mains: $18-$29; Dessert: $9.50-$12.50. Opening times:Tue-Thu noon-2.30pm, 5.30pm-10pm, Fri noon-11pm,Sat 6pm-11pm,Sun noon-11pm. Vegetarians are catered for.
The wine list is extensive : both Australian and imported wines.Good selection of wine by the glass.(eg FrChampagne $22; still $ 6-10). Cocktails, sangria , spirits, fortifieds & beers - a big list.
There is wheel chair access and disabled toilet.
Favorite Dish: For lunch we enjoyed an Olive tasting plate:$5 ; Garbanzos Marunos - chickpeas with spinach, saffron & moorish spices :$7.50; Chorizo a la plancha - grilled chorizo with olives & almonds: $8.50 with a glass of Spanish sparkling wine $10, a glass of Cape Jaffa Cab/Sav $10 & a glass of Cardingham Estate reisling from Clare Valley. For Dinner we shared a pizza ($14-23) and one of many "more substantial" tapas available from the menu & a daily specials chalk board.
We were very impressed by the staff members and their friendly outgoing natures. At lunch we noticed that children were catered for and staff went out of their way to keep the kids happy. During the evening, we sat next to locals who introduced themselves to us which together with the attentive staff made for a friendly, welcoming atmosphere , a bit like going to a country pub, I thought.
Would not hesitate to return to MesaLunga next time we visit Adelaide.
note: visited Adelaide again in Nov 2010 & dropped into Mesa Lunga for a drink but time constraints prevented dining. I'm still looking forward to having time to dine there again - all the reviews I've read are very positive.
