Adelaide was basically designed by Colonel William Light (1786 - 1839) the inner city being of exactly 1 square mile on all four sides ... Colonel Light laid out the street plan of Adelaide ... it is regarded as one of the last great planned metropolises. It has a grid layout, interspaced by public squares and is surrounded on all four sides by 1700 acres of parklands. NB: The phone number listed below is for .... Our Festival Theatre, which is set against one of these parks and the River Torrens. I have previously performed in this theatre amongst others....and if I had to choose specifically between either the Sydney Opera House and the Adelaide Festival Theatre then I could certainly say the Adelaide theatre is vastly superior in design and space both in front of the curtain and behind. It is easily accessible via parking / public transport / or indeed even only a small walk from your hotels. Our city is also known as the city of Churches. I have attached some photos of St Peters Cathedral as well as the parklands to give you a better idea. A little peace and quiet in the city, I tried to visit every botanic gardens in every Australian city I went to. Adelaide was great for sculptures, there was one round every corner, plus a few green houses too, ponds, lots of local and national planting and lots of information about the gardens on boards around the place, yo can go and see the huge Victoria water lily in a purpose built green house. It was established in 1854 on a 41 acre site, they acquired another 84 acres north of the Garden in 1866. Opening hours Weekdays 7:15am. Weekends and public holidays 9:00am Closing times vary throughout the year. Admission charges apply for the Bicentennial Conservatory, otherwise entry is free. Leave a Comment

This is a highlight in the centre of Adelaide for me. It is a big walled garden where you can go and relax, sleep, walk or have a picnic. In the summer months there is a cinema in the gardens as well so you can bring a rug, bean bag (If you happen to be traveling with one) and bottle of wine, a great evening.
