For those who have time there are some delightful walks in the Adelaide Hills. My favourites are Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty and the winter track which leaves the Waterfall Gully road on left about halfway in and runs up to Cleland and then down into Chambers Gorge where there are lots of koalas.Morialta Park has a number of great trails.
Do see the website below where Paul Scott has described a large number of walks with accompanying photos.

The surrounding hills around the city of Adelaide are known as the Adelaide Hills, funny about that! On this visit, it was not too long after terrible Ash Wednesday fires in 1983 and there was a lot of burnt out bush, as well as this rather intriguing HUGE old building, which I was fascinated with. I am not sure what the building was originally used for though.

Beautiful fresh berries, you should see the size of the strawberries - and they are sweeter than any I've tasted before. Between 1 November and 30 April, you can pick your own fresh berries, however there are roadside sales of berries and jams from 9am to dusk.
Open 7 days a week, you'd be mad not to pick up a punnet or two.

If you can afford a day's car rental, try taking out you breath with scenic beauty of the hills. Taking the Princess Freeway, explore the magic of the hills with its hiden treasures of Handorf, Mt. Lofty, Stirling, Picadilly, Strathalbyn, The Crafers and many more. Believe me you will be tempted to keep the car for a second day as you won't be able to see all in single day.
Mesmerise yourself with the great food in while sucking in the fresh air and beauty

The hills surrounding Adelaide are one of it's features. If you have a car- or can locate the bus the journey is beautiful and the small towns up there are far more local and friendly than the city itself. Stirling has a great organic market of the weekends and has a great feel about it. If you get to Mt. Lofty you can see the whole city from above, the surrounding hills and the sea

Took a day tour with Adelaide Sightseeing Tours for A$48 (circa 2001) to explore the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The last 2 stops of the day.
The penultimate stop was at Goolwa where we got to see the Murray River barrages complete with a lock for navigation. The barrages form a man-made barrier between the fresh waters of the Murray River and the salt water of the Coorong National Park. For most of the folks in the coach, it was "ah huh....and??" and for some, just "????". It just wasn't the same when there were no mysterious creatures to see or any shopping to be done.
The last stop was the Scottish town of Strathalbyn, very picturesque, very park-like, along the banks of the Angas River. Had a 15 minutes chance to stretch out my legs, do a stroll through the town, catch some photos and for my lady friends, well, a last chance to do some shopping before we hit back the City.

Took a day tour with Adelaide Sightseeing Tours for A$48 (circa 2001) to explore the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Folks who love photography would like the next vantage stop for panoramic shots of Horseshoe Bay, Rosetta Heads and Encounter Bay, all places steeped in whaling history. At this stage, Victor Harbour is very close by.

Well, I've studied in Adelaide for 4 years, I still remember the rides that I took with the head of boarding house Mr. Matthew Simpson to Norton Summit. The view up there was breathtaking if anything but I would have rode up to Mt. Lofty if my stamina would have allowed it and my bike would have allowed it. I was riding a hybrid bike back then and my friends and Mr. Simpson were riding race bikes, naturally I could not keep pace with them. Well that's all I got to share

Hire a car for a day, grap a map of the Adelaide hills and start driving. I would recommend starting at Gumeracha where you will see the Giant Rocking Horse, and travelling throught Birdwood where there is a motor museum for enthusiasts. Travel through towns such as Lobethal, which at Christmas becomes alive with christmas lights and end up a Hahndof, a quaint German town with lots of interesting shops and restaurants.
