I found these Central Markets in Adelaide city to be the best place to stock up on fresh foods of all kinds. There is a huge selection of cheeses and dairy products . I was travelling on with the Indian pacific train to Perth and here I stocked up on all my fruit and snacks.
There is a huge selection also of fresh fruit and vegetables available here.along with delicatessan specialties..especially the snadwich meats....good quality..the right price and exceptionally fresh goods.This also is just a pleasure to walk around looking at all this wonderfully fresh local produce...These markets are right beside Chinatown..local Chinese foods and produce here also.

Well worth a visit (check opening days as it's not open every day).
There are a lot of gourmet foods, unusual stalls, fresh produce, international bakeries and mini cafe's/restaurants too.
One of my favorite stands was for the funny name: The Smelly Cheese Shop, full of gourmet cheeses.
I also managed to find a French "Escargot" Pastry that aren't always easy to find in Australia, though their popularity has been increasing recently and Pain au Chocolat as well.

Adelaide’s Central Market doesn’t compare to Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market, but it is still a lively place well worth visiting. And next door to the market is Adelaide’s version of Chinatown, a small but genuine collection of Asian shops and restaurants.

The market that looked like a medieval castle. Go figure.
Started in 1869 from a humble beginning, this is one landmark of Adelaide you won't and shouldn't miss.
More than 80 stores selling fresh fruits & vegetables, bread & pastries, meat & seafood, nuts and confectionaries, gourmet cheese, souvenirs and thingagimics.
My lady friends love having breakfast at the cafes here - nothing like a good old Cappucino or Macchiato to wake up the senses. There was a bagel store here - much to the shrieking delight of my lady friends. (Go figure. Women and their bagels - I was teasing them)
I love to worm through the market, looking, smelling and tasting what was being offered. Just instinctive. Nothing like the stuff I see back home. Ham in different shades and taste; cheese in different pongs and allures. Just exciting.

You can get some amazing food at Central Market. Chances are, if you haven't been able to find it anywhere else in Adelaide, you will find it here. Even if you don't buy anything, the atmosphere is great. Try to find the sesame-peanut candy in Chinese grocery stores - it's addictive. If you visit the water cafe you can refill your bottle for a small fee.

Central Market was opened in 1869. You will find here all kind of products for sale: fruit, vegetables, meat, flowers, souvenirs, toys... It is really fun to wander around.
