The South Australian Museum is Adelaide's other big museum. It has several big sections. My favourite section was an exhibition on the Australian antarctic explorer Douglas Mawson. It was there where my interest for Arctic and Antarctic expedition of the early 20th century started - because it was the first time that I really learned something about such expeditions!
The exhibition was very interesting and showed a lot of things about the course Douglas' expeditions, the hardships he and his men endured and the animals they encountered. There was for example the reconstruction of a hut Mawson lived in, and many of his personal belongings that he had with him on his expeditions.
My least favourite section was a big room full of dead, stuffed animals - I quickly walked through there.
Other sections are for example one about ancient Egypt, one about South Australian biodiversity, one about opal fossils and one about Pacific cultures (see main picture).
I must say that I have visited better museums in Australia, but it is still worth a visit if you have some spare time, and as I said, the Mawson section is great!

This museum is one of Adelaide's landmarks. The enthralling exhibits showcase Australia's natural history and include a gallery devoted to Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson (with expedition footage). The absorbing Aboriginal Cultures Gallery displays artefacts of the region's Ngarrindjeri people.

South Australia has a fabulous museum that houses some rare displays. My favourite is the Egyptian room. Its small but very interesting. One of the unique items is the The mummy and coffin of Renpit-Nefert.
One of the largest exhibitions is of the greatest Australian explorers Sir Douglas Mawson. This area showcases his achievements in not only exploration but also his contribution to science.
There is also a great fossil section, a large collection of artifacts from the pacific, an Aboriginal gallery with over 3,000 items and a ‘Life in the Deep’ display that spans four floors.

The SA Museum is an excellent place to dicover more about Aboriginal culture, with a large collection of artefacts.
I also love their collections of minerals and fossils aswell as their meteroids. It feels strange to touch these stone chunks which have travelled from unimaginable distances.
The Museum is open daily from 10am-5pm and entrance is free.

Our museum has a large native bird display. Its a good place to visit before you hit the wilderness so you can learn a little about our birds and their habitats.

This is a free museum in the city centre. It's a natural history museum, but there's also a display about the Ngarrindjeri, the Aboriginals of the lower Murray river.
