Favorite thing: Several companies offer tours to Barossa Valley, I did one of the more affordable ones with Adelaide Sightseeing Tours that are part of Grayline. Of course this is mass tourism par exellence, but I have done several tours with Greyline and it was always very professional and good quality.
Of course it would be the best to explore the region by your own car, but as I don't like driving I found a guided tour the best option.
The tour included all the things featuring on this page: the Whispering Wall at Barosa Reservoir and Mengler Lookout, and the four wineries I have described, plus a very good lunch in a restaurant and a guided tour on one of the wineries.
It still is quite expensive, but you need to take into consideration that there is a lot of driving involved. I was very satisfied with the tour, as the guide was very friendly and professional (as all Greyline guides whom I have met so far), and we had a very nice international group, so we had good conversations over lunch!

Fondest memory: When I was searching and ordering my pictures to write this page, I came across these two pictures of gum trees. I don't know anymore which wineries they belong to, there basically were big gum trees on any farm we visited.
I love those big, white gum trees, especially in the sun shine - they look beautiful. Moreover, they also provide a bit of shade, so that is another reason why you should look for them!

Favorite thing: One of the nicest wineries I have been to, with a beautifully restored cellar door, and modern restaurant added on.
On Nuriootpa Road, just out of Angaston. Cellar door is open 9-5 Monday to Friday and Weekends and public hols 10-5.
The Restaurant which is called Salters, is open for lunch seven days a week and dinner Thursday to Saturday. We didn't eat here, but it looked beautiful and was expensive!

Think rolling hills dotted with magestic old chalets, cellar doors with the charm of yesteryear, quaint little towns, rows and rows of vines, and of course wine, and you are in the Barossa Valley!

I love food so here's a pic of my Lamb Curry pie at the Lyndoch Bakery on the way to the Barossa Valley. I had this with Coopers Light and a glass of Kiels Shiraz.
