If you have any mobility problems, eg difficulty climbing steps or require the use of a wheelchair, you will find that most of the shops in the main street will be inaccessable.
Due to laws governing modifications to heritage listed buildings, most of the shops in the main street cannot put in ramps as an alternative to the original stone steps leading up or down to the entrances. For an example of what I'm talking about, see the picture in my Knife Shop tip.
The shop owners I've spoken to would love to make modifications but their hands are legally bound.
There are a few shops and picturesque parks where you will still be able to access and enjoy the atmosphere of the town.
For more information on wheelchair friendly places to visit and stay, check out the web link to the Adelaide Hills Visitor Information Centre.
