On a log around a camp fire: Quaff some local brew
What better way to end a day of traipsing around the island than downing a couple of bottles of Coopers Pale Ale? It helps you get through the night on the lumpy "mattress" and also to forget you didn't have a shower!
Little Blue Penguin: Penguin sighting
Australia's smallest penguins return to their burrows after dusk.
They can be seen and heard around Kingscote and Penneshaw.
The smallest (and probably the noisiest) of the world's penguins, seems to have found a very happy home here on Kangaroo Island.
It is very hard to get their picture because it is dark and you cannot use a flash.
Kingscote: Discovering Penguins Walk
Tour starts with an introduction in the aquarium, then a guided walk along the beach for glimsps of penguins.
Penguins come home @ night. Check for penguin season for more sighting.
Dress Code: Dress comfortable and warm.
Had a nice Pizza for lunch at the Cafe Bella in Kingscote and a super 3 course meal in the adjoining restaurant one night.
Definately wouldnt recommend Rogers Deli and Cafe. Greasy food, warm red wine, when we asked Roger the dodger what he recommended he proceeded to suggest anything that was about to go out of date - not great. Infact his recommendations were disgusting.
The bistro at the Ozone was bustling and busy, food of a decent enough standard, place felt a bit dated though.
Just opposite Rogers is a KI cafe (not sure of the name) - they gave massive portions which i thought was just a reflection of generosity. When i spent the next 3 hours being violently ill i realised different.
KI a nice place but really needs to improve the calibre of its eateries to win repeat business from tourists. There is a lack of choice in terms of places to eat and that seems to have produced a lax attitude. They seem to want to deep fry all the fish (sure the best stuff gets sent to the mainland) and vegetables are treated American style - ie no finesse, no flavour due to chronic over boiling.

- Food and Dining
Ranger/guide guided penguin tours at night are well worth seeing, especially since they are bound to be less crowded than the penguin viewing at Victoria's Phillip Island.
