What to buy: Kangaroo Island residents sometimes get a bit annoyed that Norfolk Island issues its own stamps but they have to use regular Australia Post stamps. A few years ago some of the residents produced a set of lighthouse stamps, which can be bought in local stores around the island. They can't actually be used for postage, of course, but they look nice on your Kangaroo Island postcards when you stick them next to normal Australian stamps.

The pristine wilderness of Kangaroo Island is the only area in the world where pure Ligurian bees are known to exist - the bees were brought to the island in 1881 and their descendants now produce superb honey from flowering eucalypts and other flora.

Shopping

There are several shops and services in Kingscote.
Souvenier shops, internet, grocery stores, real estate.
Yes, we did check out the prices of houses on Kangaroo island.

What to buy: I bought several gallons of Eucalyptus laundry liquid and I loved it.
I also bought several different kinds of oils.
eucalyptus oil, emu oil, and tea tree oil.
We bought many small jars of honey for gifts and large jars of honey for us.

We all had to buy fleece jackets to keep warm, and the best selection was at the Flinder's Chase National Park Visitor's Center. They have a variety of other stuff there, too, including snacks and the dreaded knick-knacks and racks of t-shirts with pictures of whatever wildlife you're enamored of.
