Lake Eyre Dragon

Don't be overwhelmed by the vast horizons and endless landscape, there are many little things to see. This Lake Eyre Dragon isn't lost, it's not confined to just lake Eyre but lives throughout the arid region. The small vegetated islands in the lake provide refuges and feeding grounds for myriads of small creatures.

Dingo Fence

The longest fence in the world, it runs through South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. Mostly called the "Dog Fence" it was built to keep dingos out of sheep country. Many an Australian legend incorporates a reference to the Dog Fence.

Ant hill

What is quite surprising is the number of ant colonies in the bed of the lake. Maybe the soil is mounded up around the entrance to stop the very rare waters of the lake from pouring in down their tunnels. But obviously the ants are finding enough to keep themselves going.
